I run a marketing-focused YouTube channel where I talk directly to camera about marketing strategy, AI, branding, and business growth. I'm looking for a skilled video editor who can turn my raw talking-head footage into polished, engaging, high-retention videos, the kind that educate and entertain at the same time.
This is not a "just cut out the pauses" role. I need an editor who can bring energy to the footage through motion graphics, on-screen text, B-roll inserts, data callouts, and smart pacing. Think edutainment, not lecture.
Reference Channels (Please Watch Before Applying)
Study these three channels closely, they represent the editing style I'm going for:
- Wes McDowell,
- Adam Erhart,
- Exposure Ninja,
What all three have in common (and what I want): talking-head footage brought to life with kinetic text, motion graphics, relevant B-roll/screenshots, data callouts when stats are mentioned, clear section transitions, and pacing that holds attention without feeling frantic.
What You'll Be Doing
- Editing 6-12 minute talking-head YouTube videos (raw footage provided)
- Adding on-screen text and kinetic typography to reinforce key points
- Creating or sourcing relevant B-roll, screenshots, and visual inserts when I reference people, brands, platforms, or data
- Designing simple motion graphics (charts, diagrams, stat callouts)
- Adding background music, sound design, and audio normalization
- Clean jump cuts to maintain energy and remove dead air
- Applying light color grading (warm, natural, not cinematic or flat)
- Flagging thumbnail-worthy frames from the footage
- Delivering 1–2 videos per week (volume may grow)
Required Skills
- Proficient in FinalCut
- After Effects (or equivalent) for motion graphics and text animations
- Strong understanding of YouTube retention editing, you know why viewers click away and how to prevent it
- Ability to match an editing style from reference videos
- Good eye for typography, layout, and visual hierarchy
- Reliable internet and ability to handle large video files
Nice to Have
- Experience editing marketing or business YouTube content
- Thumbnail design skills (Photoshop/Canva)
- Familiarity with Canva, Descript, or CapCut as supplementary tools
- Understanding of YouTube SEO (titles, descriptions, chapters)
What I'm NOT Looking For
- Generic "cut the pauses" editing with no visual flair
- Overly cinematic or movie-trailer style editing
- Heavy use of stock footage or AI-generated visuals
- Trendy editing gimmicks (subway surfers splits, excessive
How to Apply
Please include in your application:
1. A link to your portfolio or 2–3 YouTube videos you've edited (marketing/business content preferred)
2. Watch one video from each of the three reference channels above and tell me in 2–3 sentences what you notice about their editing style
3. Your rate (per video or monthly) and availability
4. A short Loom video (1–2 min) introducing yourself and why you'd be a good fit
