About The Creator Lane
The Creator Lane is a content strategy and production studio for established creators and businesses. We build YouTube channels that earn attention and audience trust without spending credibility to get it.
About the Role
The thumbnail is the first thing anyone sees before watching our content, and you'll own it: developing the concept, directing the assets you need, compositing the final image in Photoshop, and building variants worth testing. You'll work across client and in-house channels in business, finance, technology, and documentary.
Our clients have brands to protect. The job is making a thumbnail that wins the click and still looks like it belongs to someone serious.
What You'll Own:
- Concepting original ideas from the script, title, and brief, and pitching two or three directions before committing to one
- Designing every thumbnail against its title so the pair works as a single idea instead of repeating each other
- Compositing and photo manipulation that reads as real, with lighting, color, and perspective matched so nothing looks pasted in
- Sending clear asset requests before shoots (expressions, angles, props, lighting) so the photos you need actually get captured
- Building variants for YouTube's built-in A/B testing and reviewing CTR after launch to learn what worked
- Tracking what's performing in our niches and adjacent ones, and bringing specific references to the team
- Giving and taking direct feedback from founder, clients, and other creative stakeholders
- Delivering layered, organized PSDs named to our file conventions with every final
What Makes You a Fit:
- 2+ years in Photoshop at an advanced level: masking, compositing, retouching, and color work you can do without thinking about it
- A portfolio of thumbnails made for real channels, ideally with performance context (CTR, views, or before-and-after swaps)
- Strong command of composition, hierarchy, contrast, and legibility at mobile size
- Taste. You know the difference between clean and empty, and between bold and cheap.
- Clear written communication, since most of our work runs async
- You hit deadlines, and when something threatens one, you say so early
- You take notes without defending the first draft, and you push back with reasons when you have a better idea
- Comfortable working in Google Drive,
- You study YouTube and can explain why a thumbnail worked
Bonus Skills (Nice to Have, Not Required):
- 3D experience (Blender, Cinema 4D, or similar)
- Ability to sketch hand-drawn or 3D concepts before building them
- AI Image Generation Tools
- Experience designing for business, finance, tech, or documentary channels
How to Apply
- Apply through the job app below with the following.
- Your complete portfolio, along with the three selected works of the strongest YouTube thumbnails you’ve designed and why you believe they are.
We will review candidates and circle back with shortlisted candidates to complete a paid test thumbnail. Finalists will then have an interview with the founder before a hire is selected.
