ABOUT US
Kokua Tax is a tax resolution firm in Honolulu, Hawaii. We help local families and small businesses settle IRS debt, stop wage garnishments and bank levies, and get back in good standing. Our clients come to us stressed and scared, so our website has to feel calm, credible, and trustworthy — not flashy.
Our site is built on WordPress with Elementor and hosted on GoDaddy. It's about 80% done. We need someone to take it the last mile, get it launched properly, and then keep it healthy long-term.
WHAT NEEDS TO GET DONE (THE LAUNCH PUNCH LIST)
This is real, specific work. You'd be finishing an existing build, not starting from scratch.
Launch blockers:
• Every page currently carries a "noindex, nofollow" robots tag. Diagnose the source and fix it so the site can be indexed.
• Remove all leftover template content. There is still Lorem Ipsum live in the pricing table, the newsletter block, and a "Latest project" section.
• Delete the "Latest project" section entirely — it shows placeholder case studies tagged Indonesia, Brazil, and Canada that have nothing to do with our business.
• Delete the fake pricing table ($500 / $1000 / $2500 tiers).
• Fix all dead # links: "Play Video," "See all Project," and the "Choose plan" buttons.
• Fix typos ("newslater" in the footer, "ax Audit Representation," singular/plural errors in the stat counters).
• Update the footer copyright year.
• Two pages report different Elementor versions (4.2.1 vs 4.1.5), which points to a caching or regeneration issue. Diagnose and resolve.
Build and improve:
• Add Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, and Accessibility Statement pages (we'll supply the legal text; you build and link them).
• Rebuild the contact and quote forms to capture name,
• Full mobile responsiveness pass on every page and every breakpoint.
• Page speed and Core Web Vitals optimization — image compression, lazy loading, caching, minimal plugin bloat.
• Technical SEO setup: title tags, meta descriptions, heading hierarchy, alt text, XML sitemap, schema markup for a local professional services business, Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 connected and verified.
• Security and maintenance basics: automated backups, an SSL check, plugin/theme update routine, and a staging environment so changes never go live untested.
Ongoing after launch (~5 hrs/week):
• Publish blog posts we write, formatted and optimized
• Plugin, theme, and WordPress core updates
• Uptime, backup, and speed monitoring
• Small design and content changes as we grow
• Monthly report on site health and traffic
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required:
• 2+ years hands-on with WordPress and Elementor Pro
• A portfolio of live, working website links — not screenshots, not mockups. We will visit them.
• Solid HTML and CSS. You can write custom CSS when Elementor can't do what's needed.
• Real technical SEO experience: Search Console, schema, Core Web Vitals, indexing issues
• Comfortable diagnosing plugin conflicts, caching problems, and things that "should work but don't"
• Clear written English. You'll be reporting progress in writing, not on calls.
• Reliable and self-directed. You'll often be working while we're asleep.
Nice to have:
• Experience with professional services sites — legal, accounting, financial, medical
• Familiarity with GoDaddy hosting
• Experience connecting website forms to a CRM (we'll be adding one soon and would like your input)
• Basic PHP
WORK SETUP
• We're in Hawaii (HST). The time difference is large, so this role is async-first. We don't expect you online during our workday.
• We'd like 2 scheduled overlap hours per week for a live check-in — early morning Philippines time works best. Everything else runs on written updates.
• Payment weekly or bi-weekly via Wise or your preferred secure method.
• We use written task lists and expect end-of-day progress notes. No micromanaging, but we want to know where things stand.
IMPORTANT: SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
We're a tax firm. Our website collects personal information from people in financial distress, and we take that seriously.
• You'll receive your own named admin account. We do not share logins.
• You'll be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement before receiving access.
• Client data never leaves our systems — no exporting form submissions, no copying contact records, no third-party tools we haven't approved.
• Two-factor authentication required on your account.
If any of that is a dealbreaker, this isn't the right fit — and that's fine.
HOW TO APPLY
Start your application with the word PONO so we know you read this far.
Then send us:
1. Three live website links you built or substantially rebuilt in WordPress + Elementor. Tell us specifically what you did on each.
2. Answer this: A WordPress site is showing noindex, nofollow on every page. Walk us through how you'd track down the cause. List the places you'd check, in order.
3. Answer this: Two pages on the same Elementor site report different Elementor version numbers in the page source. What's most likely going on, and how do you fix it?
4. Your hourly rate and how many hours per week you can commit over the next month.
5. Your typical working hours in Philippines time.
Applications that skip the questions or send screenshots instead of live links won't be reviewed.
Send your cv and answers to the above questions to
We're looking for someone we can work with for years, not one project. Mahalo for reading, and we look forward to hearing from you.
