Review architectural, civil, survey, and site development plans.
Develop and/or review site layouts, grading plans, drainage plans, and earthwork plans.
Analyze existing and proposed site conditions.
Review site access, elevations, slopes, drainage patterns, and constructability.
Assist in preparing land development plans for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
Identify potential design conflicts and recommend practical engineering solutions.
Grading & Drainage
Review proposed grading and ensure appropriate slopes and drainage patterns.
Analyze site elevations, contours, spot elevations, swales, channels, and drainage structures.
Review stormwater management and surface drainage concepts.
Evaluate cut-and-fill requirements and earthwork quantities.
Identify potential grading issues that may affect drainage, accessibility, constructability, or project cost.
Geotechnical Coordination
Review available geotechnical and soil investigation reports.
Identify grading and site preparation requirements based on geotechnical recommendations.
Review soil stability, compaction, excavation, fill, and site preparation considerations.
Coordinate geotechnical requirements with civil/site development plans.
Flag potential geotechnical concerns for further review by the appropriate geotechnical professional.
Quantity Takeoffs & Cost Support
Perform civil/site development quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications.
Quantify earthwork, excavation, fill, concrete, drainage, utilities, paving, and other civil components where applicable.
Assist with estimates, budgets, scopes of work, and bid documentation.
Review contractor or subcontractor quantities and identify discrepancies.
Support project managers and estimators with technical civil information.
Remote Plan Review & Coordination

Provide markups and comments using digital collaboration and PDF review tools.
Coordinate remotely with project managers, architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Attend virtual meetings and provide technical input when required.
Maintain organized project files, calculations, markups, and supporting documentation.
Track design comments, revisions, RFIs, and other technical items.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Professional engineering license/registration is preferred.
Experience in site civil engineering, land development, grading, drainage, or earthwork.
Strong ability to read and interpret civil, architectural, structural, survey, and geotechnical plans.
Understanding of grading, drainage, site development, and earthwork principles.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects remotely.

Microsoft Excel
PDF markup and document management platforms
Civil/site development design software
Quantity takeoff and estimating software
Online project management and collaboration platforms
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who can work independently as a virtual civil engineering resource and translate project drawings and technical information into practical engineering outputs.
The ideal candidate should have a combination of:
Site Civil Engineering + Land Development + Grading & Drainage + Earthwork + Geotechnical Coordination
You do not need to be a specialist in every area. Strong experience in site development and civil plan review, combined with the ability to coordinate with geotechnical professionals and other disciplines, is highly valued.
