About the role
I run two things that need video. The first is my YouTube channel, Trevor Carlson, a travel storytelling channel with about 54,000 subscribers. The second is Fresh Fuel Marketing, a paid media agency where we make video ads for clients.
I have a lot of footage. Old trips, b-roll, unused takes, half finished projects. What I do not have is someone who watches all of it, figures out what should be made from it, and then drives those videos to done.
That is this job. You are not just an editor. You are the person who d
What you will do
Watch and review existing footage, b-roll, and archive material, and keep track of what we have
D
Write outlines and scripts for those videos
Either edit the video yourself, or hand the script and outline to our video editing team
Give the editing team specific, useful feedback until the cut is right
Do the same work for Fresh Fuel client ad creative: review what footage a client has, plan the ads, brief the editors, review the cuts
Keep every project moving and visible in Slack so I always know what stage things are at
Communicate with me directly, clearly, and without needing to be chased
What I am looking for
You have managed video projects before, not just edited them. You have d
You can watch two hours of raw footage and come back with a short list of specific ideas, not vague ones
You can edit. Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci, CapCut, whatever you are strongest in. Tell me which
You can write a script or an outline that an editor can actually follow
You can give an editor feedback that makes the next version better, with timestamps and specifics, not "make it more engaging"
You know Slack and use it well. This is where we work. Threads, channels, updates, no silence
Strong written English
You are reliable about deadlines and you tell me early when something is going to slip
Nice to have
Experience with YouTube specifically: retention, hooks, packaging, thumbnails, titles
Experience with paid social ad creative (Meta, TikTok, YouTube ads) and what makes a direct response video work
Familiarity with
Travel, documentary, or story driven editing experience
Tools we use
Slack, Google Drive, Notion, and your editing software of choice.
How to apply
Read this part carefully. Applications that skip a step get deleted.
1. Send your resume. You can use AI to write or format your resume. I do not care.
2. Write your cover letter yourself. Please do not use AI for this one. I want to hear how you actually think and write. Tell me why you are a good fit for this specific role. Short is fine. Honest is better than polished.
3. Do this task. Watch this video:
"10 Day Motorbike Adventure: Exploring Northern Thailand's Hidden Gems on the Mae Hong Son Loop"
Then send me three video ideas that come out of that footage or that story.
They need to be highly specific. Not "a video about Hong Kong food." Something closer to "a 6 minute video built around the 3 minutes at the Wat Pa Tam Wua stop, opening on the road shot at 4:12, framed around what the loop costs you rather than what it gives you." Give me the angle, roughly how long it would be, what the hook is, and which moments from the video you would build it from.
I will judge your application mostly on step 3. It tells me whether you can do the actual job.
4. Put this in your subject line: VIDEO PM - [your favorite documentary]
