JOB OVERVIEW

We’re building a disaster documentary channel, real historical events (volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, tornadoes, plane crashes, industrial disasters) told through archival footage and narration. We have a specific house style and need an editor who can learn and execute it consistently, not just edit generically.

House style: Built primarily from real archival/news/found footage matched closely to narration stock or AI visuals only as fallback for generic shots, never a substitute. Footage eras kept deliberately distinct (older archival for the historical event, modern drone only for present-day establishing shots) no visible era mismatches. Hard cuts only, cinematic pacing (3–6 sec avg shots) with slow burn holds at suspense peaks. Restrained captions with single word red emphasis. Chapter structure with re-hooks to sustain retention across 18–20 min.
You’ll be doing:
• Sourcing real footage matching the script (a research skill as much as editing)
• Cutting to pacing targets above, hard cuts only
• Opening each video with a 60–120 sec flash-forward montage building to the title card
• House graphics: date/location stamps, running clock through the event, map overlays with pins, stat counters/witness cards where relevant
• Preserving original archival audio (news broadcast, radio, 911 calls) under narration where it exists, rather than replacing it
• Sound design: steady music bed, deliberate silence before key reveals, one stinger per major beat
• Structuring into acts with spoken re-hooks between them
Requirements:
• Portfolio showing real sourced footage not stock slideshow with zoom
• Comfortable matching narration to specific real world footage
• Experience with long form (15+ min) YouTube editing, retention-focused pacing
• Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or CapCut Pro
