VIRTUAL MEDICAL ASSISTANT

Remote Position | U.S. Central Time (CST/CDT)
Internal Medicine Clinic is seeking a dependable, organized, and experienced Virtual Medical Assistant to provide remote administrative support to our clinical team and patients.
We are looking for someone interested in a stable, long-term professional working relationship. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, comfortable communicating with patients and healthcare organizations, and able to follow established procedures while becoming increasingly independent after training.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Virtual Medical Assistant may be responsible for:
• Answering and managing patient telephone calls
• Scheduling, confirming, and rescheduling patient appointments
• Managing patient referrals
• Processing and following up on prior authorizations
• Verifying insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits
• Following up with insurance companies regarding outstanding matters
• Processing medical-record requests
• Assisting with prescription and refill-related administrative tasks
• Reviewing, organizing, and routing incoming documents and faxes
• Following up with patients regarding administrative matters
• Communicating professionally with pharmacies, specialists, hospitals, laboratories, and insurance companies
• Updating patient and administrative information in the EHR/EMR
• Following up on incomplete, pending, or outstanding work
• Maintaining accurate and timely documentation
• Completing assigned medical-office and administrative tasks
• Protecting confidential patient information and following HIPAA requirements
• Following written clinic policies, procedures, and workflows
• Performing other medical-office duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous healthcare experience is strongly preferred.
Ideal candidates should have:
• Previous experience as a Virtual Medical Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical VA, or healthcare administrative assistant
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Experience using an EHR/EMR system
• Experience with health insurance verification, referrals, prior authorizations, and/or medical records
• Strong spoken and written English
• Excellent telephone and patient-communication skills
• Strong computer and technology skills
• Ability to learn new software, systems, and workflows
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to work independently
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to prioritize and follow through on assigned work
• Willingness to ask questions when clarification is needed
• Ability to take notes, retain training, and follow written instructions
• Ability to follow clinic policies and procedures consistently
• Professionalism, accountability, and reliability
RELIABILITY & TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Because this position directly supports patient care and daily clinic operations, reliability is extremely important.
The successful candidate must have:
• Reliable high-speed internet
• A dependable computer suitable for remote work
• Backup internet access
• Backup power when appropriate for the candidate's location
• A quiet, private, and professional workspace
• Consistent attendance and punctuality
• Ability to remain available, responsive, and productive throughout scheduled working hours
Candidates must be able to work during the clinic's required hours in U.S. Central Time (CST/CDT).
TRAINING
Arkansas Internal Medicine Clinic will provide training on our practice-specific workflows, policies, procedures, systems, and expectations.
We are looking for someone who is trainable and willing to learn. The successful candidate should take good notes, retain information, follow instructions carefully, accept constructive feedback, and become increasingly independent after training.
SCHEDULE
This position follows Arkansas Internal Medicine Clinic's operating schedule in U.S. Central Time (CST/CDT).
Specific working days and hours will be discussed during the interview.

COMPENSATION
Hourly compensation will be based on the candidate's healthcare experience, qualifications, and demonstrated skills.
