We’re hiring a detail-obsessed Transcriber & Redactor to process audio/video recordings and discovery materials for criminal defense client files. You will transcribe, summarize, index, and redact sensitive information so our attorneys can move faster with clean, usable work product.
This role is not for “close enough.” It’s for people who catch what everyone else misses.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
1) Transcription (Audio/Video)
Transcribe recordings accurately (interviews, body-worn camera, jail calls, dispatch audio, etc.)
Identify speakers clearly (e.g., Officer 1 / Client / Witness) when possible
Add timestamps at set intervals and/or at key
Mark unintelligible sections correctly (e.g., “[inaudible 00:12:41]”)
Produce both:
Verbatim transcript (as requested), and/or
Clean transcript (light grammar cleanup without changing meaning)
2) Redaction (Discovery + Transcripts)
Redact sensitive/irrelevant information per firm standards and attorney instructions, including:
DOB, SSN, driver’s license numbers
Home addresses, phone numbers, emails
Medical/mental health details (when directed)
Names/identifiers of minors and protected parties
Financial account info and other sensitive identifiers
Ensure redactions are permanent (proper PDF redaction methods—no “black box highlight” mistakes)
Maintain a redaction log when required (what was redacted + why + where)
3) Discovery Organization & Indexing
Label and organize files consistently (clean naming conventions)
Create indexes for discovery sets (what’s included, date ranges, key items)
Produce short summaries of recordings/documents for attorney review (issue spotting, key quotes, key time markers)
Flag urgent/high-value items immediately (confessions, contradictions, impeachment material, timeline conflicts)
4) Confidentiality & Quality Control
Follow strict confidentiality procedures and secure handling of files
Double-check accuracy before submitting (names, dates, quote accuracy, timestamp alignment)
Follow checklists and formatting rules so deliverables are standardized across cases
