Project Description
We're producing a flat 2D illustrated animated children's series set in a Caribbean village, animated in Toon Boom Harmony. All character artwork is already finished — clean, rigging-ready model sheets with separated front/3-4/side views and 4–6 distinct facial expressions per character. We do NOT need an illustrator or designer. We need someone to take completed character art and build functional Harmony rigs (cut-out puppets) so the characters can be animated (walk, talk, gesture, expression swaps) inside our existing Harmony production pipeline.
This is rigging work only, delivered as native Toon Boom Harmony files. Reference character sheets will be provided for every character (human kids, adults, and several animals — dog, monkeys, macaws, a toucan, a raccoon, a sea turtle).
What we need built
For each character, delivered as a Toon Boom Harmony scene/template (.tvb or a reusable Harmony template):
A proper cut-out rig with separated, moveable parts: head, torso, upper/lower arms, hands, upper/lower legs, feet (or equivalent for animal anatomy — e.g., wings, tails, flippers)
Correct pegs and pivot points at joints so limbs rotate naturally, with a sensible node/rigging hierarchy in the Harmony Node View
Deformers (bone or curve deformers) applied where needed for natural limb bending, not just rigid rotation
Expression swapping set up via layer visibility or a swap-position system, using the provided expression panels
Mouth shapes set up for lip-sync (standard viseme set) if you have experience with this — please note in your application if you don't
One character (Mateo) uses a manual wheelchair — the rig needs to handle wheelchair + seated character as a connected unit, with wheels rigged to rotate independently of the body
Clean, human-readable layer/peg/node naming throughout (no default "Layer 1," "Peg 2," etc.)
Tool requirement
This project is animated entirely in Toon Boom Harmony (Essentials, Advanced, or Premium — please specify which version you use). Please only apply if you have hands-on Harmony rigging experience; we can't accept rigs built in other software for this project.
Required experience
A portfolio or reel showing PREVIOUSLY RIGGED characters actually moving in Toon Boom Harmony (a screen recording or GIF of the rig in motion — not just static character art). This is the main thing we're screening for.
Solid working knowledge of Harmony's Node View, pegs, and deformers (bone/curve)
Comfort rigging both human and non-human/animal anatomy
Experience with mouth-shape/viseme setups for lip sync in Harmony
Ability to work from provided flat illustrated source art without redrawing or altering the character design
Please state which version of Harmony you use (Essentials / Advanced / Premium) and your OS
How to apply
Please include:
A link to at least one Harmony-rigged character in motion (video/GIF), ideally in a flat 2D illustrated style similar to the reference images we'll share
Which version of Harmony you use, and whether you also have experience with lip-sync/viseme rigging
Your estimated time and cost per character rig
Any questions about the wheelchair character before we award the trial
Trial structure
We'll start with a single paid trial character (a simple human character, no wheelchair) to confirm quality and workflow fit before committing to the full remaining cast (approximately 14–16 characters total, including several animals).
Notes
No illustration or redesign work needed — source art is locked and approved.
Rigs must be built natively in Toon Boom Harmony so they drop into our existing pipeline with no conversion or re-rigging needed.
Please do not apply if your samples only show static character turnarounds without an actual Harmony rig in motion; we can't evaluate rigging skill from a still image, and rigs from other software (Character Animator, Spine, After Effects, etc.) won't be compatible with this project.
