Role Overview
We’re seeking an extremely thorough Technology Infrastructure Estimator to analyze blueprints and other project documents, determine all structured cabling and network hardware needs, and present a complete proposal for our CEO to review. This role also requires the ability to create engaging walkthrough videos—one for internal review and one tailored to the client to showcase our high-tech approach and competitive edge.
Key Responsibilities
1. Blueprint Analysis
- Examine architectural drawings, reflected ceiling plans, and MEP sheets to identify all low-voltage requirements.
- Determine pathways (J-hooks, cable trays, conduits, ladder racks) and confirm suspension methods.
2. Scope & Material Calculation
- Calculate total linear footage of Cat6, fiber, and any other cabling needed.
- Identify all hardware requirements (network racks, cabinets, cable trays, patch panels, keystone jacks, etc.).
- Factor in relevant codes and standards (BICSI, TIA/EIA).
3. Cost Estimation
- Estimate material costs (cable, hardware, consumables).
- Account for labor hours based on complexity, installation methods, and site conditions.
- Provide a detailed breakdown of anticipated expenses and potential contingencies.
4. Proposal & Reporting
- Develop a comprehensive supply list (cables, hardware, accessories).
- Compile a concise, high-level proposal for the CEO, including key dates (bid due date, potential site walk-through, etc.).
- Track insurance/certification requirements and ensure compliance for each project.
5. Video Presentations
- Internal Walkthrough Video: Summarize the project’s scope, materials, and cost structure for quick CEO review.
- Client-Facing Video: Highlight the proposed solution’s benefits and our tech-forward approach, clearly conveying
Layer-1’s value.
6. Process Improvement & Documentation
- Maintain organized records of estimates, RFI deadlines, and client communications.
- Suggest process enhancements to streamline future estimations and standardize best practices.
Qualifications
- Technical Expertise
- Proven experience reading and interpreting blueprints (structured cabling, electrical, mechanical as needed).
- Solid understanding of BICSI or TIA/EIA standards for cabling and pathways.
- Familiarity with suspension methods (J-hooks, cable trays, conduits).
- Estimating & Proposal Writing
- Demonstrated ability to calculate linear footage of cables and produce precise material/labor cost estimates.
- Proficiency in creating clear, executive-level proposals and budgets.
- Communication & Video Presentation Skills
- Comfort with recording screen-share videos or short video presentations explaining project scope.
- Ability to tailor video content for internal (technical detail) and external (client-facing) audiences.
- Tools & Software
- Adept at using AutoCAD or similar software for blueprint analysis.
- Experience with project management tools (e.g., Asana) and possibly QuickBooks or Excel for cost tracking.
- Familiarity with video recording/editing tools (e.g., Loom, Zoom screen record, etc.).
- Detail-Oriented & Deadline-Driven
- Capable of juggling multiple projects while meeting strict RFI/bid submission deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills to ensure no detail is overlooked.
- Nice-to-Haves
- RCDD certification or equivalent credentials.
- Experience creating marketing-style videos for client presentations.
