TECHNICAL SEO SPECIALIST - LINK CLEANUP & SITE HEALTH
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a detail-oriented Technical SEO Specialist to clean up and maintain the health of our website's link structure. This is a hands-on, in-the-weeds role. You won't be writing strategy decks - you'll be auditing pages, finding what's broken, and fixing it.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Your core job is cleanup. Specifically, you will:
- Find and fix broken links across the site, both internal and outbound
- Identify redirect chains and unnecessary redirects, and clean them up so pages point directly to their final destination
- Replace outdated, dead, or low-quality links with current, working, relevant ones
- Add internal links to pages that need them so our site structure makes sense to both users and crawlers
- Run regular crawls to catch new issues before they pile up
- Fix 404s by either restoring the page or redirecting it to the right place
- Clean up canonical tags, sitemap entries, and other technical debt as it comes up
- Keep a clear log of every change you make
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Proven experience doing technical SEO cleanup work, not just theory
- Comfortable with Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, Semrush, and Google Search Console
- Working knowledge of WordPress and basic HTML
- Solid understanding of redirects: 301 vs 302, when to use each, and why redirect chains hurt
- Genuinely detail-oriented - this job is repetitive and requires care
- Able to work independently and report clearly on what you've fixed
- Solid written English
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with large sites (10,000+ pages)
- Familiarity with .htaccess or server-level redirects
- Basic Google Sheets / Looker Studio reporting skills
HOW TO APPLY
Please reply with a short note covering the following:
1. A site you've cleaned up before and what specifically you fixed
2. The tools you use for SEO and examples of problems you have soli
3. Your answer to this: if a page has a 5-step redirect chain, what do you do and why?
4. Your monthly rate and available hours
Applications without answers to these questions will not be reviewed.
