Job Summary
The Tax Staff is responsible for preparing and reviewing business and personal tax returns while ensuring accurate reconciliation of tax data to the company’s financial statements. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently. The position plays a critical role in ensuring that tax filings accurately reflect the company’s financial records through thorough balance sheet analysis, account tie-outs, and reconciliation procedures.
This is not an entry-level role and requires demonstrated experience in tax preparation and financial statement analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and review corporate, partnership, and other business tax returns in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Perform detailed reconciliations between tax returns and financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Conduct comprehensive balance sheet analysis, demonstrating a deep understanding of how accounts impact tax reporting.
Tie out balance sheet and income statement accounts to external tax workpapers and supporting documentation.
Perform detailed retained earnings reconciliations, ensuring consistency between prior year filings, financial statements, and current year tax reporting.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies between general ledger accounts, financial statements, and tax workpapers.
Maintain well-organized tax workpapers that clearly support all reported tax positions.
Work independently to analyze financial data and identify potential tax issues or inconsistencies.
Collaborate with senior tax professionals when complex tax issues arise.
Ensure all tax documentation and filings meet strict accuracy and compliance standards.
Qualifications
Several years of tax preparation experience in public accounting or corporate tax environments.
Strong experience with financial statement analysis and balance sheet reconciliation.
Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Experience reconciling tax workpapers to audited or internal financial statements.
