JOB OVERVIEW

About Sacramento Tax Resolution
We are a rapidly growing tax resolution and planning firm serving business owners and high-income individuals across the United States. Over the past seven years, we've built a reputation for exceptional client service, strategic tax planning, and delivering measurable results. We operate with a lean, highly efficient team where every member plays a critical role in our clients' financial success.

The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced Tax Preparer to join our remote team and take ownership of our tax preparation operations. This isn't a typical data-entry tax prep role - you'll be working with business owners, contractors, and high-net-worth individuals on complex returns including multi-state filings, cost segregation studies, and strategic tax planning implementations.

This role is perfect for someone who:
• Wants to grow beyond basic 1040-EZ returns into sophisticated tax work
• Takes pride in accuracy and thoroughness
• Thrives with clear systems and documentation
• Wants long-term stability with a growing firm
• Values continuous learning and professional development

Core Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Review:
• Prepare individual and business tax returns (1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, 990)
• Handle multi-state tax returns and complex scenarios
• Review client-provided documentation for completeness and accuracy
• Implement tax planning strategies developed by our planning team
• Prepare amended returns and prior-year filings
• Calculate estimated tax payments and quarterly projections

Client Communication:
• Respond to client questions via email and client portal
• Request missing documentation and follow up systematically
• Explain tax positions and filing strategies in clear, understandable terms
• Maintain professional communication standards that reflect our firm's values

Quality & Compliance:
• Ensure all returns meet IRS compliance standards
• Document research and support for tax positions
• Maintain organized digital files for each client
• Follow firm SOPs and quality control checklists
• Stay current on tax law changes affecting our client base

Systems & Process:
• Follow and improve upon established preparation workflows
• Use Drake Tax Software, Practice Management Software, and internal systems
• Document recurring issues and suggest process improvements
• Maintain detailed notes and work papers for review

Required Qualifications
Must-Haves:
• Minimum 3 years of tax preparation experience
• Strong working knowledge of US individual and business taxation
• Experience with Drake Tax Software (or ability to learn quickly)
• Proficient in Excel and comfortable with cloud-based systems
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• High-speed internet connection and professional home office setup
• Availability during US business hours (Pacific Time preferred)

Highly Preferred:
• Experience with multi-state returns
• Knowledge of contractor/construction industry taxation
• Familiarity with cost segregation or fixed asset accounting
• Previous experience with tax resolution or IRS representation
• PTIN or equivalent credential (or willingness to obtain)

What We Provide
• Comprehensive Training: Detailed SOPs, video training, and ongoing support
• Professional Development: Access to CPE courses and continuing education
• Clear Systems: We document everything so you're never guessing
• Growth Opportunity: As we scale, leadership roles will open up
• Stable, Long-Term Position: We're building a team for the long haul
• Competitive Compensation: Based on experience and skill level
• Modern Tools: All software and systems provided

Our Ideal Candidate
You're detail-oriented without being slow. You ask questions when unclear rather than guessing. You take ownership of your work and don't need micromanagement. You're comfortable with technology and learn new systems quickly. You understand that tax preparation is both technical work and client service, and you excel at both.

Compensation & Schedule
• Competitive salary based on experience (please include your rate expectation)
• Full-time position: 40 hours per week
• Schedule flexibility around Pacific Time business hours
• Seasonal flexibility during tax season (January-April may require additional hours)
• Performance-based increases as you demonstrate mastery

How to Apply
Please submit:
1. Your resume highlighting relevant tax preparation experience
2. A brief cover letter explaining why you're the right fit for this role
3. Your current/expected hourly or monthly rate
4. Examples of tax return types you've prepared (without client names/sensitive data)
5. Your available start date
In your cover letter, please answer: "What's the most complex tax situation you've handled, and how did you approach it?"
We review applications on a rolling basis and will conduct video interviews with qualified candidates.
