# Tax Manager – U.S. Accounting Firm

SME Accounting is seeking an experienced **Tax Manager** to join our growing U.S.-based accounting firm. We are looking for someone with strong U.S. tax experience who can independently prepare and review tax returns, manage deadlines, identify tax issues, and help oversee the tax preparation process.

## Responsibilities

* Prepare and review U.S. federal and state tax returns
* Prepare and review **Form 1040 – Individual Tax Returns**
* Prepare and review **Form 1065 – Partnership Tax Returns**
* Prepare and review **Forms 1120-S and 1120 – Business Tax Returns**
* Review K-1s, shareholder and partner basis, depreciation, and other tax-related schedules
* Handle multi-state tax returns and related filing requirements
* Assist with tax planning and estimated tax calculations
* Review financial statements, trial balances, workpapers, and supporting documentation
* Identify missing information and potential tax issues
* Perform tax research when necessary
* Manage multiple client engagements and filing deadlines
* Review work prepared by other tax team members
* Assist with Forms 1099 and other annual compliance filings
* Help improve tax processes, procedures, and quality-control standards

## Requirements

* **5+ years of U.S. tax experience**
* Strong experience with **1040, 1065, 1120-S, and 1120 tax returns**
* Strong understanding of U.S. federal taxation
* Experience with business and individual tax returns
* Experience reviewing tax returns prepared by others
* Strong accounting and financial statement knowledge
* Excellent attention to detail
* Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
* Strong written and verbal English communication skills
* Comfortable working with a U.S.-based accounting team

## Preferred Experience

* **Drake Tax** experience
* QuickBooks Online experience
* Multi-state tax experience
* Experience working remotely for a U.S. CPA or accounting firm
* Experience supervising or reviewing the work of tax preparers
* Tax planning experience

## Compensation

**Starting at $1,500 USD per month, with higher compensation available based on experience, technical tax knowledge, and ability to independently prepare and review complex U.S. tax returns.**

We are willing to pay more for the right candidate with strong U.S. tax experience and demonstrated tax review and management capabilities.

## What We're Looking For

This is **not an entry-level tax preparer position**. We are looking for someone who understands U.S. taxation, can take ownership of returns from start to finish, and can identify potential issues rather than simply entering information into tax software.

The right person will be dependable, organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable asking questions when something does not make sense.
