Role Summary
The US State Tax Compliance Specialist will be responsible for guaranteeing timely compliance with all relevant US federal and, most critically, multi-state tax regulations. This role requires strong proficiency in US GAAP, accounting software, and a proactive approach to maintaining compliance across various state-level taxes.
State Tax Compliance and Research
1. Multi-State Sales & Use Tax: Monitor and track economic nexus requirements, calculate, file, and remit monthly/quarterly sales and use tax returns in multiple US states.
2. Business License & Registrations: Ensure the company maintains all necessary state and local business licenses and permits, including annual renewals.
3. Income/Franchise Tax Support: Prepare supporting documentation and schedules for the company's state income and franchise tax returns for review by a US CPA.
4. Compliance Monitoring: Stay current on changes to US state and local tax laws and regulations that impact the business (e.g., new nexus thresholds, rate changes).
5. Audit Support: Assist with gathering documentation and corresponding with state taxing authorities during audits or inquiries.
Qualifications:
1. Demonstrable working knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
2. Specific experience with multi-state sales tax compliance is a significant asset.
3. Certification (e.g., Certified Bookkeeper, Xero Certified Advisor) is a plus.
