JOB OVERVIEW

Solar Permit Expert – SunGrid Solar
Remote Position | Full-Time | Weekly Salary + Performance Bonuses
Hi! I'm looking for an experienced Solar Permit Expert to join our growing team at SunGrid Solar.
We're looking for someone who has extensive experience with residential solar permitting and can take full ownership of our permitting department, ensuring projects move efficiently from completed plan sets through permit approval and inspection.
Your primary responsibility will be managing solar permit submissions across multiple jurisdictions (AHJs), reviewing plan sets for accuracy, coordinating corrections, tracking approvals, and ensuring every project is permit-ready without unnecessary delays.
You'll work closely with our project managers, engineers, installers, and local building departments to keep our solar projects moving forward.
We have established systems, processes, and checklists in place, and I'll personally train you on our internal workflow and expectations. However, we are looking for someone who already understands solar permitting and can work independently with minimal supervision.
This is a long-term opportunity with tremendous growth potential as our company continues to expand.
Your Daily Responsibilities
- Prepare, submit, and manage residential solar permit applications across multiple cities and counties.
- Review solar plan sets for accuracy and compliance with local AHJ requirements.
- Submit permit applications through online permitting portals.
- Communicate directly with city and county building departments regarding application status and requirements.
- Identify and resolve permit rejections, correction notices, and plan-check comments.
- Coordinate with engineers and designers to obtain revised plan sets when necessary.
- Follow up daily on pending permits to minimize approval timelines.
- Maintain accurate permit tracking and update project milestones in our CRM.
- Verify that all required documentation is complete before submitting applications.
- Coordinate with the installation department to ensure approved permits are available before installation.
- Assist with inspection scheduling and resolving failed inspection corrections when needed.
- Provide daily updates on permit submissions, pending approvals, corrections, and completed permits.
Your main objective is simple: Get solar permits approved accurately, efficiently, and as quickly as possible.
What We're Looking For
- Fluent in English (required).
- Spanish fluency is a strong plus.
- Previous hands-on experience submitting residential solar permits (required).
- Strong understanding of solar permitting processes and AHJ requirements.
- Experience working with multiple city and county permitting portals.
- Ability to review solar plan sets and identify missing or incorrect information.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Able to manage a high volume of permit applications simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and follow-up skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable working independently and meeting daily production targets.
- Available Monday–Friday during business hours.
- Reliable and looking for a long-term career opportunity.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with any of the following is a strong advantage:
- California residential solar permitting.
- SolarAPP+ and other expedited permitting platforms.
- AHJ online submission portals.
- Solar and battery storage permit applications (including Tesla Powerwall).
- Electrical single-line diagrams and solar plan sets.
- Solar permitting correction and resubmission processes.
- Residential solar inspection requirements.
- Go High Level or other CRM/project management platforms.
- Utility interconnection and PTO documentation.
Compensation
This is a competitive opportunity for someone who understands solar permitting and can consistently deliver results.
- Competitive weekly base salary.
- Performance bonuses based on permit approval production, accuracy, and turnaround times.
- Long-term career growth opportunities.
- Opportunity to advance into a Solar Permitting Department Manager position as our company expands.
To Apply, Please Send:
1. Your updated resume.
2. A 1–2 minute video or voice recording explaining:
- How many years of solar permitting experience you have.
- Which states, cities, or AHJs you've worked with.
- Approximately how many solar permits you can process per day.
- Which permitting platforms you have experience using.
- Why you would be a great fit for SunGrid Solar.
Applications submitted without a voice or video introduction will not be considered.
One Last Thing...
To let us know you read this entire post, include the phrase:
"I LOVE SOLAR!"
at the beginning of your application.
If I like your application and recording, I'll personally arrange a time for an interview.
We look forward to welcoming the next great member of the SunGrid Solar team!
