We're not looking for just another video editor looking for a job.
We're looking for a creative, detail-oriented video editor who understands that great short-form content is about much more than cutting clips together.
You'll be working directly with Tyler & Jessica from JVT Media to edit short-form content primarily for Jessica's social media. You'll also spend a smaller portion of your time helping create photo & video creatives for our advertising campaigns.
If you understand storytelling, pacing, hooks, trends, music, and what makes someone stop scrolling, this could be a great fit for you.
We're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, moves quickly, pays attention to the small details, and is constantly looking for ways to make their edits better.
We don't want someone who simply follows instructions and checks a box.
We want someone who can take a large amount of raw footage, understand the story we're trying to tell, find the best moments, and turn them into short-form content that people actually want to watch.
This is intended to be a long-term position starting at 15 hours a week. We're looking for someone who wants to grow with us, develop their editing skills, grow into a full time 40 hour a week position and become an important part of our creative team.
As you read this description, feel free to ask any questions you have. Clear communication and curiosity are valued here.
This posting is for an audition. We will choose several candidates for a paid test project. After reviewing everyone's work, we'll d
POSITION OVERVIEW
Your primary responsibility will be editing short-form video content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, Meta Ads.
Jessica will provide raw footage and creative direction, and your job will be to turn that footage into engaging, polished, platform-ready content.
You'll need to be comfortable working with large amounts of raw footage and identifying the strongest 1–3 second moments that fit the story being told.
You'll also spend a smaller portion of your time helping create video-based ad creatives for our advertising campaigns.
The ideal person understands that editing isn't just about making a video look good.
It's about understanding:
• What makes someone stop scrolling.
• How to create a strong hook in the first few seconds.
• How to maintain attention throughout a video.
• How to use pacing and pattern interrupts effectively.
• How to tell a story with limited time.
• How music, visuals, text, and voiceovers work together.
• What makes content feel native to Instagram and TikTok.
• How trends and current culture can be used to make content more relevant.
• How to look at performance and use that information to make the next video better.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Short-Form Video Editing
Edit Instagram Reels, TikToks, and Meta Ad creatives using raw footage provided by Jessica and the team.
• Storytelling & Clip Selection
Review large quantities of raw footage and identify the strongest moments that support the story, message, and overall goal of each video.
You should be able to recognize when a clip is worth using, and when it isn't.
• Hooks & Retention
Create strong visual and narrative hooks at the beginning of videos that immediately capture attention.
You'll be expected to think critically about whether the first few seconds of a video are strong enough to make someone stop scrolling.
• Pacing
Create engaging pacing that matches the content, music, voiceovers, and story.
You'll need to understand when a video needs to move quickly and when slowing down creates a stronger emotional impact.
• On-Screen Text
Create engaging, visually appealing on-screen text that is consistent across videos while still feeling creative, current, and native to short-form platforms.
• Captions & Subtitles
Add and clean up captions/subtitles, including correcting spelling, punctuation, timing, formatting, and styling.
• Audio
Handle basic audio mixing, including voiceover levelling, music levels, noise reduction, and ensuring dialogue is clear and easy to understand.
• Colour Correction & Grading
Apply basic colour correction and grading to ensure footage looks clean, consistent, and professional.
• Music & Trends
Stay aware of current Instagram and TikTok trends, including popular sounds and editing styles, and understand when they may be appropriate to incorporate into content.
• Ad Creative
Spend a smaller portion of your time creating and editing photo & video creatives for Meta advertising campaigns.
This may include adapting organic content into ads, creating different hooks or variations, and editing footage and images specifically for advertising purposes.
• File Organization
Keep footage, project files, exports, and other assets organized using our naming conventions and folder structures.
• Continuous Improvement
Constantly look for ways to improve your editing process, work more efficiently, and raise the quality of the content you produce.
This includes learning new editing features, functions, techniques, and AI tools that can improve your workflow.
WHAT A TYPICAL WEEK MIGHT LOOK LIKE

• Editing short-form videos from start to finish.
• Creating strong hooks and opening sequences.
• Adding captions and engaging on-screen text.
• Matching edits to music and voiceovers.

• Learning new editing techniques, features, and AI tools to improve your work.
QUALITIES NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
At JVT Media, we're looking for more than someone who knows how to use an editing program.
The technical skills can continue to improve.
What matters most is how you think, how you work, and how much pride you take in what you create.
• Creativity
You have a strong creative eye and genuinely enjoy making content. You understand aesthetic composition, visual storytelling, pacing, and what makes a video feel engaging.
• Storytelling
You understand that every good short-form video has a reason for existing. You can identify the story and use footage, pacing, music, text, and editing to communicate it effectively.
• Attention to Detail
You notice the small things, awkward cuts, spelling mistakes, inconsistent text, poor audio levels, unnecessary pauses, bad framing, and anything else that makes an edit feel less polished.
• Performance Mindset
You're interested in what actually performs, not just what looks good.
You pay attention to engagement, retention, audience response, and trends, and use that information to make each video better than the last.
• Speed & Efficiency
You work quickly without sacrificing quality. You're constantly looking for ways to improve your workflow and get better results in less time.
• Coachability
You take feedback well. You don't get defensive when something needs to change, you use feedback to improve your editing and your understanding of what we want.
• Reliability
When you say something will be done, it's done. You communicate early if something is unclear or if a deadline is at risk.
• Initiative
You don't need to be told every single thing to do.
If you see an opportunity to improve an edit, try a different approach, test a new trend, or make something better, we want you to speak up.
• Organization
You can manage multiple projects and deadlines without letting things fall through the cracks.
• Positive Attitude
We want someone who genuinely enjoys the work they do and is a positive, enjoyable person to work with every day.
