JOB OVERVIEW

I'm looking for a skilled short-form video editor to edit vertical content for TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, and YouTube Shorts.

This is NOT a basic captioning/cutting position. I'm looking for an editor who can take relatively simple raw footage and turn it into a highly engaging, fast-paced video through strong storytelling and creative visual editing.

You should be very good at:

Visual effects — most important. Creative effects, compositing, masking, tracking, overlays, screen replacements, visual gags, cutouts, background/effect changes, and other edits that visually reinforce what's happening or being said.
Storytelling & cutting. Knowing what to remove, what to emphasize, when to cut, and how to structure footage to maintain retention without needing detailed instructions for every edit.
Framing & movement. Punch-ins, zooms, reframing, tracking subjects, and creating movement from otherwise static footage.
Captions & text animation. Clean, highly readable captions with emphasis on important words and timing that feels native to viral short-form content.
Sound design. Using sound effects, impacts, transitions, music, and other audio elements to make visual moments hit harder.
Pacing. Understanding when a video needs another visual stimulus and keeping the edit moving without making it feel randomly overedited.
REQUIRED EDITING TEST

Every applicant must complete a short test edit.

I will provide the same raw footage to applicants. Your job is to edit it while matching the reference video's style as closely as possible.
I will specifically be judging:

1. Visual effects and creativity — highest priority
2. Storytelling and choice of cuts
3. Pacing/retention
4. Framing, zooms and camera movement
5. Captions and text treatment
6. Sound design
7. Overall similarity to the reference

I'm not looking for someone who simply copies individual effects from the example. I want an editor who understands why and when those effects are being used and can apply that same editing language creatively to completely different footage.

When applying, send me examples of your best short-form edits that use significant visual effects. Please don't send long-form talking-head edits or basic captioned Reels unless they demonstrate the skills above.
