JOB OVERVIEW

ABOUT HOUSE OF SPLOOTS
House of Sploots is a new Australian e-commerce brand specialising in beautiful, practical dog accessories and dog-friendly homewares.
We are creating a brand for people who adore their dogs but also care about how their homes look.
The Shopify website is currently in its pre-launch stage and has not yet gone live to customers.
The brand direction has already been established, but the website still needs design refinement, technical setup, integration work and a complete pre-launch check.
I am looking for a Shopify Web Designer & Technical Integration Specialist who can help me get the website properly finished and launch-ready.
This role is ideal for someone who understands both:
How an e-commerce website should LOOK
and
How an e-commerce website should WORK
I do not need someone who only creates attractive graphics.
I need someone who understands Shopify technically, can customise themes, troubleshoot integrations, work with Alibaba/Syncee, test the entire customer journey and identify problems before customers do.
THE IMMEDIATE PROJECT
I am aiming to get the House of Sploots website ready for launch very soon.
The successful person will initially receive approximately:
8 HOURS OF PAID WORK IN THE FIRST WEEK
The first week will be focused on reviewing, completing and testing the existing Shopify website.
After that, the role will reduce to approximately:
2 HOURS PER WEEK ONGOING
The ongoing hours will primarily be used for technical website checks, troubleshooting, small improvements and ensuring the site and integrations continue to work correctly.
There may occasionally be opportunities for additional paid hours when larger changes, new integrations, campaigns or website projects are required.
YOUR FIRST PRIORITY: PRE-LAUNCH WEBSITE AUDIT
Before making random changes, I want you to review the entire existing Shopify store.
I would like you to identify:
Critical issues that must be fixed before launch
Design or customer-experience issues that should be improved before launch
Improvements that can safely wait until after launch
I want someone who can look at the website objectively and tell me:
- What is working
- What is not working
- What looks unfinished
- What could confuse customers
- What could stop a customer purchasing
- What needs improvement
- What you recommend fixing first
I am happy to discuss the website visually and collaboratively.
If I tell you that an area does not feel right, I need you to be able to suggest solutions rather than simply wait for me to design it for you.
SHOPIFY WEB DESIGN & THEME CUSTOMISATION
You need to have genuine Shopify theme-design experience.
The House of Sploots brand direction already exists, so I am not looking for someone to completely reinvent the brand.
I need someone who can take the existing direction and make the website feel finished, cohesive, professional and commercially credible.
You may work on:
- Homepage layout
- Section hierarchy
- Homepage banners
- Product-page layouts
- Collection-page layouts
- Header design
- Footer design
- Navigation
- Menus
- Search
- Filters
- Typography
- Spacing
- Image placement
- Image sizing
- Product-card layouts
- Promotional sections
- Calls to action
- Trust elements
- Mobile layouts
- Desktop layouts
- Responsive design
- Brand consistency
- Visual polish
- Overall customer experience
The current House of Sploots visual direction uses a sage, ivory and charcoal aesthetic with a stylish, warm, homewares-led feel.
The website should feel like a considered lifestyle/home brand for dog owners — not like a generic pet-supply store.
A strong visual eye is therefore important.
TECHNICAL SHOPIFY EXPERIENCE
You must also be comfortable working technically inside Shopify.
Experience should ideally include:
- Shopify theme customisation
- Shopify theme settings
- Shopify sections and templates
- Product templates
- Collection templates
- Navigation
- Filters
- Metafields
- Shopify apps
- App integrations
- Shipping settings
- Shipping profiles
- Product data
- Variants
- Inventory
- Customer forms
- Redirects
- Basic SEO configuration
- Analytics/tracking implementation
- Troubleshooting
- Website QA
Experience with the following is highly desirable:
- Shopify Liquid
- HTML
- CSS
- Basic JavaScript
You do not need to be a full-stack developer, but you should be technically capable enough to identify and fix common Shopify theme and integration problems.
ALIBABA DROPSHIPPING & SYNCEE INTEGRATION
This is a very important part of the role.
I currently need help properly setting up and troubleshooting the connections between my Shopify store and supplier/dropshipping systems.
You should ideally have experience with:
- Alibaba Dropshipping
- Syncee
- Shopify supplier integrations
- Product syncing
- Inventory syncing
- Variant syncing
- Pricing syncing
- Supplier feeds
- Order fulfilment flows
- Shipping information
- Tracking information
- Product imports
The current setup needs to be audited and properly configured.
I do not simply want someone to tell me:
“It is connected.”

I need someone who can prove that the system is actually working correctly.
END-TO-END INTEGRATION TESTING
Once the integrations are configured, I would like at least one product tested properly through the workflow.
For example:
Supplier → Alibaba/Syncee → Shopify → Product → Variants → Inventory → Shipping → Customer-facing page → Order/fulfilment process
I want you to confirm:
- Where the product information originates
- How it reaches Shopify
- Whether variants sync correctly
- Whether inventory updates correctly
- Whether pricing works correctly
- Whether supplier information is mapped correctly
- Whether shipping information is correct
- What happens when a customer orders
- How fulfilment is handled
- How tracking information is returned
- Any limitations or manual steps involved
If something cannot be automated or synced, tell me clearly.
Do not pretend something is working if it is not.
SHIPPING & CHECKOUT TESTING
I also want the website checked from an actual customer's point of view.
This includes testing:
- Product availability
- Product variants
- Add to Cart
- Cart
- Checkout
- Australian shipping options
- Shipping profiles
- Different product combinations
- Mobile checkout
- Desktop checkout
- Discount functionality where relevant
- Forms
- Contact links
- Navigation
- Search
- Filters
I want any potential customer-facing issue identified before launch, not after a customer contacts me.
WEBSITE QUALITY ASSURANCE
You will also be responsible for checking things such as:
- Broken links
- Missing images
- Image-quality issues
- Slow or oversized images
- Incorrect redirects
- Old or irrelevant branding
- Mobile responsiveness
- Desktop responsiveness
- Tablet responsiveness where appropriate
- Inconsistent page layouts
- Incorrect buttons
- Forms that do not work
- App conflicts
- Layout problems
- Product-page errors
- Collection-page errors
- Navigation issues
- Checkout issues
- Basic performance issues
- Anything else that could make the website feel unfinished or difficult to use
Attention to detail is extremely important.
MOBILE-FIRST THINKING
A large percentage of customers will visit the store from a phone.
I therefore need you to actively test the website on mobile rather than simply assuming that because it looks good on desktop, it works everywhere.
You should check:
- Header
- Navigation
- Images
- Buttons
- Product pages
- Collection pages
- Text sizing
- Spacing
- Cart
- Forms
- Pop-ups
- Footer
- Checkout journey
WEEKLY WEBSITE HEALTH CHECKS
After the initial launch-preparation work is complete, the role will reduce to approximately:
2 HOURS PER WEEK
During these ongoing hours, I would like you to check things such as:
- Website functionality
- Mobile functionality
- Desktop functionality
- Alibaba/Syncee connections
- Product syncing
- Inventory syncing
- App integrations
- Shipping functionality
- Links
- Forms
- Navigation
- Product pages
- Collection pages
- Cart
- Checkout
- Website errors
- Theme issues
- Any obvious performance problems
You may also make small approved website improvements during these hours.
If you discover a larger issue that requires more time, tell me before exceeding the agreed weekly hours.
REPORTING
Clear reporting is essential.
At the end of your initial work and during the ongoing weekly checks, I want a concise update showing:
Checked
What you reviewed.
Problems Found
Anything incorrect, broken or potentially problematic.
Fixed
What you corrected.
Needs Approval
Anything you believe should be changed but requires my decision.
Recommended
Any improvement you think would make the website more effective.
Next Action
Anything that needs to be monitored or addressed during the next session.
I want outcome-based reporting, not:
“Worked on Shopify for two hours.”

I want something more like:
“Checked all mobile product pages, corrected spacing on two templates, found three broken collection links, confirmed Syncee inventory sync is functioning and identified one product whose variant mapping is incorrect. The variant issue requires further investigation during the next session.”

DOCUMENTATION & HANDOVER
For technical integrations, I also want clear documentation.
Please be prepared to provide:
- Basic written setup notes
- Screenshots of important settings
- Which apps/integrations are being used
- Which system controls inventory
- Which system controls pricing
- How fulfilment works
- Any manual processes
- Important settings that should not be changed
- Known limitations
- Common troubleshooting steps
A short Loom walkthrough may also be requested once the integration setup is working.
The reason for this is simple:
I want the business to understand its own systems rather than become dependent on one person knowing how everything works.
SECURITY & ACCESS
You may receive access to Shopify and related systems.
You must:
- Keep all business information confidential
- Never share account access
- Never share login details
- Use secure passwords
- Use two-factor authentication where appropriate
- Protect customer information
- Report suspicious activity immediately
- Never provide access to another contractor without permission
You must not:
- Publish the website
- Publish a theme
- Purchase apps
- Subscribe to software
- Place supplier orders
- Spend business funds
- Delete important data
- Make major irreversible changes
without prior approval.
During the build, significant theme work should remain in an unpublished/draft theme until I approve it.
WHO I AM LOOKING FOR
You may be a great fit if you are:
- Experienced with Shopify
- Technically confident
- Good at Shopify theme customisation
- Comfortable troubleshooting
- Visually capable
- Detail-oriented
- Proactive
- Organised
- Reliable
- Good at communicating
- Comfortable working independently
- Able to explain technical issues in plain English
- Able to suggest solutions
- Comfortable questioning something that does not look correct
- Focused on customer experience
- Able to work with an existing brand direction
I particularly value someone who can say:
“I noticed this wasn't working correctly, so I investigated it, identified the cause and here is what I recommend.”

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Please apply if you have strong hands-on experience with several of the following:
- Shopify
- Shopify theme customisation
- E-commerce websites
- Web design
- Shopify apps
- Website troubleshooting
- Responsive design
- Website QA
- Mobile optimisation
- Product/variant configuration
- Shipping setup
- Dropshipping integrations
- Alibaba Dropshipping
- Syncee or similar platforms
- Shopify Liquid
- HTML/CSS
- Basic JavaScript
Strong Shopify experience is essential.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE
Experience with:
- Alibaba Dropshipping
- Syncee
- Supplier integrations
- Inventory syncing
- Order fulfilment integrations
- Australian e-commerce websites
- E-commerce UX
- Conversion-focused website design
- Shopify SEO
- Analytics
- Google Search Console
- Google Analytics
- Meta Pixel
- Shopify Markets
- Site-speed optimisation
is highly desirable.
HOURS
First week:
Approximately 8 paid hours
The initial work will focus heavily on:
- Website completion
- Design refinement
- Alibaba/Syncee integration

- Launch readiness

Approximately 2 paid hours per week ongoing
The ongoing work will focus primarily on:

COMPENSATION
Please include your expected hourly rate in USD when applying.
I am not necessarily looking for the cheapest applicant.
I am looking for someone who can actually solve problems, work efficiently and reduce the amount of time I personally spend fighting with website technology.
HOW TO APPLY
Please start your application with:
SPLOOT TECH READY
This tells me that you have read the job advertisement.
Then answer the following:
1. What is your name and where are you based?
2. What is your expected hourly rate in USD?

4. Are you comfortable continuing with approximately 2 hours per week after that?
5. How many years have you worked with Shopify?
6. Please provide links or screenshots of Shopify websites you have worked on.
7. What exactly did you do on those websites?
8. What experience do you have customising Shopify themes?
9. Have you worked with Shopify Liquid, HTML, CSS or JavaScript?

19. Please provide an example of a website design improvement you recommended and implemented.
20. What do you think is most important when preparing an e-commerce website for launch?
Most importantly:
Tell me about a time you found a website or integration problem that the client did not know existed. How did you identify it, what did you do and what was the result?

FINAL NOTE
House of Sploots is currently pre-launch, so this is an important piece of work.
I want the website to launch looking beautiful, professional and cohesive, but it also needs to work properly behind the scenes.
I am therefore looking for someone who combines:
Web design + Shopify technical knowledge + integration troubleshooting + attention to detail.
I want someone I can rely on to tell me when something is wrong, help me fix it and then continue checking the website after launch so that problems are caught early.
If you enjoy making e-commerce websites look better, work better and sell more effectively, I would love to hear from you.
