Shopify Developer & E-Commerce Optimization Specialist
Remote, Philippines | Project-Based With Potential for Ongoing Work
Chicago-based fine jewelry house rooted in art, design, and culture. We are strengthening our direct-to-consumer business and looking for an experienced Shopify developer to improve the performance of our existing website.
This is not a redesign. We want to retain our visual identity while improving the customer journey, product discovery, SEO, conversion, and ease of website management.
The Role
This is a hands-on technical and e-commerce role. You will identify the improvements most likely to increase qualified traffic and sales, prioritize them within our budget, and personally implement the approved work.
We are not looking for a general website audit, an AI-generated list of recommendations, or someone who relies on installing multiple apps. We need a specialist who can work directly within Shopify, solve problems, improve the existing theme, and demonstrate measurable results.
The scope includes the homepage, collection pages, product pages, About Us pages, E journal, cart, and checkout journey.
Responsibilities
Review the existing Shopify theme, apps, catalog structure, navigation, mobile experience, site speed, SEO, analytics, and conversion journey
Identify and prioritize improvements according to revenue impact, urgency, implementation time, and cost
Personally implement approved changes within Shopify
Improve the existing theme without proposing an unnecessary redesign
Optimize navigation, product discovery, merchandising, calls to action, and mobile usability
Improve collection mapping, product tags, filters, metafields, naming conventions, and related-product recommendations
Strengthen product and collection pages to communicate essential information and support conversion
Improve the connection between brand storytelling, journal editorial content, and products
Resolve issues involving sizing, variants, availability, sold-out products, preorder, and made-to-order products
Improve technical and on-page SEO while protecting existing URLs and search value
Optimize page speed and image performance
Reduce friction across the cart and checkout journey
Verify Shopify analytics, GA4, Meta Pixel, and key conversion events
Establish baseline performance and measure the results of implemented changes
Test all work across mobile and desktop devices
Document changes and train the internal team to manage routine website updates
Required Experience
At least three years of hands-on Shopify development experience
A portfolio of live Shopify websites you personally improved
Strong knowledge of Shopify themes, Liquid, HTML, CSS, metafields, collections, product templates, and app integrations
Ability to modify and troubleshoot an existing Shopify theme
Experience organizing and optimizing a large product catalog
Understanding of conversion-rate optimization, mobile commerce, and technical SEO
Experience with Shopify analytics, GA4, Meta Pixel, and conversion tracking
Ability to evaluate whether a solution requires custom development, an app, or a native Shopify feature
Strong attention to detail and visual consistency
Excellent written and spoken English
Ability to work independently and provide clear, proactive progress updates
Availability for regular overlap with Chicago business hours
Experience with luxury, fashion, fine jewelry, or another high-consideration product category is strongly preferred.
What Success Looks Like
Approved improvements are implemented, tested, and functioning correctly
Customers can navigate collections and find relevant products more easily
Product information, availability, sizing, and purchasing options are clear
Mobile speed and usability improve
Brand and editorial content lead customers naturally toward product discovery
Add-to-cart rate, checkout completion, conversion, organic traffic, and revenue improve
The internal team can manage routine website updates without developer support
New apps and recurring costs are introduced only when clearly justified
Initial Project
The selected specialist will begin with a defined optimization sprint:
Review the website, analytics, theme, apps, and product structure
Establish baseline performance
Present a prioritized implementation roadmap based on impact, effort, and cost
Implement the approved high-priority improvements
Complete mobile and desktop testing
Verify analytics and conversion tracking
Document the work and provide a recorded handover
Report on performance following implementation
Strong performance may lead to ongoing Shopify development and optimization work.
How to Apply
Please include:
Two or three live Shopify websites where you personally implemented improvements
A clear description of what you personally coded or configured on each website
Before-and-after results, including conversion, speed, revenue, SEO, or usability improvements where available
An example of a Shopify problem you solved without adding another app
Your experience with collections, metafields, product templates, SEO, analytics, and conversion tracking
Your hourly rate or fixed-project pricing
Your availability and possible overlap with Chicago business hours
Applications containing only a generic agency introduction, an automated website audit, or recommendations without evidence of personal implementation will not be considered.
Shortlisted candidates may be invited to complete a small paid Shopify task before the full project is awarded.
