We are an established Australian investment education business looking for an exceptional full-time YouTube Video Editor to become a key member of our content team.
This is not a role for someone who simply removes pauses, adds captions and exports a video.
We want an editor who understands YouTube retention, storytelling, pacing and audience psychology.
We already have an experienced on-camera presenter, a substantial library of content and a 60–90 minute educational presentation recorded every week. Your job is to turn that raw material into highly watchable standalone YouTube content.
Our audience is predominantly Australians aged 40+, so we are looking for polished, intelligent and trustworthy editing rather than hyperactive editing designed for teenagers.
What you will do
- Turn a weekly 60–90 minute presentation into approximately 2–3 strong standalone YouTube videos.
- Create approximately 5–8 Shorts from the same source material.
- Edit long-form educational videos generally around 10–25 minutes.
- Find the strongest story and teaching points rather than simply editing chronologically.
- Make sure the opening delivers on the title immediately.
- Remove repetition and dead sections while preserving the presenter's natural style.
- Add B-roll, charts, screenshots, captions, lower thirds and simple motion graphics where they improve understanding.
- Create clean visual explanations of financial concepts and numbers.
- Make text and graphics clear enough to read on a television.
- Clean audio, colour-correct footage and maintain a consistent visual style.
- Work with our YouTube strategist on thumbnail concepts and packaging.
- Produce Shorts that communicate one complete idea rather than random clips.
- Maintain organised source files and project files.
- Deliver consistently and hit agreed deadlines.
What we care about
Retention and clarity matter more to us than flashy transitions.
A great editor for us can watch a 90-minute presentation, identify the 15 minutes worth publishing, restructure it if necessary, and make the viewer want to continue watching.
You should understand concepts such as:
- the first 30 seconds of a YouTube video
- pattern interruption
- open loops
- removing dead time
- matching the opening to the title/thumbnail promise
- visual storytelling
- when B-roll helps and when it distracts
- long-form versus Shorts pacing
Experience editing educational, finance, business, documentary, podcast or expert-led content is particularly useful.
Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve preferred. After Effects skills are valuable but not essential. Claude. Higgsfield. Remotion. Opus. etc.
This role is probably NOT for you if
You need detailed instructions for every edit.
You think retention means adding a zoom or sound effect every three seconds.
You routinely miss deadlines.
You cannot explain why you made an editorial decision.
Or your portfolio consists mainly of templates rather than storytelling.
How to apply
Please send us:
1. Links to your three best long-form YouTube videos.
2. Links to your three best Shorts.
3. Tell us exactly what you personally did on each.
4. Pick one of the long-form videos and explain one editing decision you made specifically to improve retention.
5. Tell us approximately how long that video took you to edit.
6. Tell us your current workload and when you could start.
7. Tell us your expected monthly salary.
Do not send 20 links. We would rather see your three best.
Hiring process
Strong candidates will be given the same paid editing test using real source footage.
We will assess storytelling, judgement, pacing, accuracy, visual clarity, attention to detail, communication and turnaround time.
This is intended to be a long-term role with significant responsibility for the right person.
