We are a U.S.-based accounting and advisory firm looking for an exceptionally strong Senior Accountant and Financial Analyst.
This person will be responsible for complex bookkeeping cleanups, reviewing bookkeeping completed by other tea
This is not a basic bookkeeping or transaction-categorization position. We need someone who can independently handle the accounting records of multi-million-dollar companies, identify serious bookkeeping and financial-reporting problems, correct the records, analyze business performance, and provide meaningful financial recommendations.
The ideal candidate must be highly proficient in U.S. GAAP, QuickBooks, Xero, Microsoft Excel, accounting-data analysis, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow analysis, and management reporting.
Primary Responsibilities
Accounting Cleanup and Review
Review existing bookkeeping for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP.
Perform complex QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Xero, and accounting-system cleanups.
Review bookkeeping completed by other accountants and bookkeepers.
Analyze the general ledger, trial balance, balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and supporting schedules.
Identify incorrect classifications, duplicate transactions, missing transactions, unsupported balances, and reconciliation problems.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, merchant processors, payroll accounts, clearing accounts, and intercompany balances.
Correct accounts receivable and accounts payable discrepancies.
Review and correct undeposited funds, suspense accounts, opening balance equity, retained earnings, owner equity, and uncategorized transactions.
Review payroll expenses, payroll liabilities, sales-tax liabilities, loan balances, fixed assets, accumulated depreciation, prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, accruals, and other balance-sheet accounts.
Prepare and post adjusting journal entries.
Manage month-end and year-end closing procedures.
Maintain supporting schedules, reconciliation workpapers, cleanup logs, and complete audit trails.
Excel and Accounting Data Analysis
Use advanced Microsoft Excel to organize, clean, analyze, and reconcile large accounting datasets.
Combine data from QuickBooks, Xero, banks, payroll systems, merchant processors, and other platforms.
Analyze general-ledger and transaction-level data to identify errors, duplicates, unusual activity, missing information, and financial trends.
Use PivotTables, Power Query, XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS, IF formulas, dynamic arrays, data validation, conditional formatting, and other advanced Excel functions.
Build repeatable Excel models and templates for accounting reconciliations and financial analysis.
Perform data cleanup, account mapping, transaction matching, variance analysis, and trend analysis.
Create dashboards, charts, schedules, and management reports that clearly explain financial performance.
Validate the completeness and accuracy of imported or exported accounting data.
Work efficiently with large data files containing thousands of transactions.
Budgeting and Forecasting
Prepare annual operating budgets based on historical results and management assumptions.
Create monthly, quarterly, and annual financial forecasts.
Develop rolling 12-month forecasts.
Prepare revenue, expense, payroll, capital-expenditure, and working-capital projections.
Compare actual results against budgets and forecasts.
Investigate and explain significant budget-to-actual variances.
Update forecasts based on current financial performance and changing business conditions.
Build scenario models showing best-case, expected-case, and worst-case results.
Help management understand the financial impact of hiring, pricing, expansion, financing, and other business decisions.
Cash-Flow Analysis
Prepare direct and indirect cash-flow analyses.
Develop weekly and monthly cash-flow forecasts.
Create rolling 13-week cash-flow models.
Analyze expected customer collections, vendor payments, payroll obligations, loan payments, taxes, and other cash requirements.
Identify potential cash shortages before they occur.
Analyze working-capital trends, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, and operating cash requirements.
Recommend ways to improve cash flow, collections, payment timing, and working-capital management.
Monitor actual cash activity against forecasted cash flow and explain major differences.
Financial Reporting and Business Recommendations
Prepare accurate balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow statements, and management reports.
Develop monthly financial-reporting packages for business owners and management.
Analyze revenue growth, gross profit, operating expenses, margins, customer concentration, and profitability.
Identify unusual financial trends, declining margins, increasing costs, or potential operational problems.
Calculate and analyze financial and operational key performance indicators.
Review profitability by customer, product, location, department, class, or service line.
Translate bookkeeping information into clear business insights.
Make practical recommendations based on financial results.
Identify areas where the company may be overspending, underpricing, losing money, or using cash inefficiently.
Recommend improvements to accounting procedures, internal controls, reporting, and financial management.
Clearly explain financial information to business owners who may not have an accounting background.
