Important: This Is a Hands-On Accounting Position
We are looking for a highly experienced senior accountant who can personally perform difficult transaction-level accounting, resolve reconciliation problems, review the work of other accountants, and help coach a growing remote accounting team.
This is not a management-only position. A substantial portion of the work will be performed directly in QuickBooks Online (or similar ERP platforms like NetSuite), Excel, Google Sheets, and client workpapers.
If you are no longer comfortable personally correcting transactions, investigating reconciliation differences, preparing journal entries, and completing monthly accounting, this position is not a fit.
About Us
We are a U.S.-based outsourced accounting and fractional CFO firm. We serve small and midsized businesses that have outgrown basic bookkeeping but do not need a full-time internal CFO or controller.
Our clients operate in several industries, including construction, professional services, e-commerce, real estate, and other multi-entity businesses. Our work includes monthly accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, cash-flow management, cleanup projects, and CFO support.
We have an established remote accounting team in the US and the Philippines and are hiring for growth.
The Position
The Senior U.S. Accountant will work directly with the firm’s owner and support other remote accountants.
The position combines three responsibilities:
Personally performing complex accounting and reconciliation work.
Reviewing and correcting work completed by other accountants.
Helping the team improve its accounting quality, documentation, workflow, and efficiency.
Initially, approximately 70%–80% of the position will involve hands-on accounting work. The remainder will involve review, staff support, workflow coordination, and authorized client communication.
This is a long-term role. A successful candidate may grow into a formal Accounting Team Lead position based on demonstrated technical ability, judgment, communication, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Perform monthly accounting for multiple U.S. clients.
Complete difficult bank, credit card, loan, payroll, clearing-account, and balance-sheet reconciliations.
Investigate and correct reconciliation differences, duplicate transactions, deleted transactions, misapplied payments, and posting errors.
Review balance sheets, profit and loss statements, trial balances, and general ledgers for accuracy.
Prepare and review adjusting journal entries.
Review workpapers and accounting completed by other staff members.
Determine whether monthly accounting files are ready for financial reporting.
Identify missing accruals, unsupported balances, classification errors, personal activity, intercompany differences, and unusual transactions.
Review payroll, sales tax, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, loans, equity, and multi-entity activity.
Answer technical accounting questions from staff.
Explain errors clearly and help staff prevent them from recurring.
Distinguish preparer responsibilities from reviewer responsibilities.
Identify repeated work, duplicated effort, and inefficient accounting processes.
Monitor assigned client deadlines and time budgets.
Escalate missing information, accounting problems, and potential time overruns promptly.
Maintain accurate, specific, and contemporaneous time entries.
Communicate professionally with U.S. clients when authorized.
Maintain workflows, deadlines, and review notes in ClickUp.
Create and improve accounting procedures and workpapers.
Required Experience
At least seven years of professional accounting experience.
At least three years working with U.S. accounting, bookkeeping, CAS, outsourced accounting, or public-accounting clients.
Experience handling multiple unrelated client files simultaneously.
Experience reviewing or correcting the work of other accountants or bookkeepers.
Advanced experience with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Accountant.
Strong bank, credit card, loan, and balance-sheet reconciliation skills.
Strong understanding of accrual accounting and month-end close.
Ability to prepare and review adjusting journal entries.
Experience reviewing balance sheets and income statements for errors and unusual activity.
Strong Excel and Google Sheets skills.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Ability to explain accounting problems clearly to staff and management.
Proven ability to work independently, exercise judgment, and accept responsibility for results.
Reliable high-speed internet, a professional home workspace, and backup plans for internet and power interruptions.
Prior successful experience working a permanent U.S. night-shift schedule.
Preferred Experience
Philippine CPA designation.
NetSuite or other ERP experience.
Experience in a U.S. accounting firm or client accounting services practice.
Experience with construction, professional services, e-commerce, real estate, or multi-entity accounting.
Experience with payroll, sales tax, 1099s, and financial-report preparation.
Experience coaching or supervising remote accounting staff.
Experience using ClickUp, Google Workspace, and similar cloud-based systems.
Experience monitoring client time budgets or engagement profitability.
Working Hours
The regular schedule is Monday through Friday during U.S. Eastern business hours, beginning at approximately 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. We will consider an earlier or later start time once you have proven that you have the skills for this position.
Applicants must understand the effect of this schedule in the Philippines and be prepared to work it consistently. Preference will be given to candidates with successful long-term night-shift experience.
Compensation
$10-$25 Per Hour, depending on demonstrated experience, technical ability, review skills, and the results of the practical assessment.
This is a full-time, long-term independent-contractor position.
How Success Will Be Measured
The successful candidate will:
Complete assigned accounting accurately and on time.
Resolve difficult reconciliations efficiently.
Find accounting problems before they reach the firm’s owner.
Improve the quality of work completed by other staff.
Reduce repeated corrections and unnecessary rework.
Maintain clear preparer and reviewer responsibilities.
Escalate missing information and time overruns early.
Produce specific and supportable time entries.
Take ownership of problems.
Help other accountants become more capable and independent.
