JOB OVERVIEW

Senior / Staff Software Engineer — AI Platform

Remote — Philippines | Full-time | $30,000+ annual cash base | U.S. Eastern Time

We’re looking for an exceptional senior engineer to own major parts of a production healthcare AI platform end-to-end.

You’ll work closely with our technical leadership and a small engineering team on backend systems, data integrations, AI-enabled workflows, cloud infrastructure, enterprise deployments, and production reliability.

This is a hands-on engineering role with significant architectural ownership.

You will write code, make technical decisions, review designs, debug production systems, and help establish engineering standards.

We don't want someone who waits for perfectly defined tickets.

We want someone who can take an ambiguous problem, understand the business and technical constraints, challenge assumptions, recommend the right approach, and own the solution through production.

Exact technology matches are less important than strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn quickly.


WHAT YOU'LL OWN

- Design and build scalable backend services, APIs, and platform capabilities
- Own major technical projects from architecture through production
- Build integrations with complex external systems and data sources
- Develop reliable data pipelines and processing workflows
- Integrate AI/LLM capabilities into production applications
- Design data models and improve database performance
- Improve scalability, security, observability, and reliability
- Diagnose difficult production issues and identify root causes
- Build and improve CI/CD and deployment processes
- Review code and architectural designs
- Establish strong standards for testing, maintainability, security, and documentation
- Work with technical and product leadership to turn requirements into scalable solutions
- Partner with customer-facing teams on complex enterprise integrations and technical deployments
- Mentor engineers and raise the quality of the engineering team


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong backend engineering experience
- Excellent system-design and architecture fundamentals
- Experience building and operating production-grade software
- Strong experience with APIs, integrations, databases, and distributed systems
- Experience designing scalable cloud-based systems
- Strong understanding of testing, CI/CD, monitoring, logging, and production reliability
- Ability to independently solve complex and ambiguous technical problems
- Strong debugging and root-cause-analysis skills
- Excellent written and spoken English
- High ownership and attention to quality

We care more about what you have built and owned than years of experience alone.


AI EXPERIENCE

You do not need to be an ML researcher.

We're looking for a strong software engineer who knows how to build reliable production systems around modern AI.

Experience with production AI applications is strongly preferred, particularly with areas such as LLM APIs, RAG, agentic workflows, vector search, model evaluation, AI reliability, and latency/cost optimization.


CLOUD & INFRASTRUCTURE

You should be comfortable working with modern cloud infrastructure, including:

- AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Docker/containerized applications
- CI/CD
- Infrastructure as Code
- Monitoring and observability
- Secure cloud architectures
- Performance and scalability

Kubernetes experience is a plus where relevant, but we don't expect one person to be an expert in every infrastructure technology.


HEALTHCARE EXPERIENCE

Healthcare experience is a strong plus, but not required.

Particularly relevant experience includes:

EHR integrations, FHIR/HL7, Epic or Oracle Health/Cerner, clinical or claims data, HIPAA, PHI handling, RBAC, auditability, encryption, and enterprise security requirements.

In healthcare, we consider security, privacy, reliability, and auditability foundational requirements—not optional features.


THE ENGINEER WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We want a builder-operator.

Imagine you're told:

“We need to reliably integrate this data source into the platform. Figure out the right architecture.”

A strong candidate doesn't wait for a detailed specification.

You investigate the problem, ask the right questions, understand the constraints, evaluate tradeoffs, recommend an approach, and build it.

And your ownership doesn't stop when the pull request is merged.

You care about whether the system deploys correctly, performs reliably, is observable, handles failures appropriately, and works in the real world.

You know when to build for future scale—and when a simpler solution is the better engineering decision.

You should also be comfortable challenging technical decisions when you believe there is a better approach.


THIS ROLE IS NOT

This is not a:

- Ticket-taking engineering role
- Pure engineering-management position
- Pure DevOps position
- Customer-support role
- Research-only AI position

You will build software yourself while having meaningful influence over architecture and technical direction.


WORKING SCHEDULE

This is a full-time, 45-hour/week position, Monday through Friday.

The role will primarily follow U.S. Eastern Time, approximately 9:00 AM–6:00 PM ET.

Candidates based in the Philippines must already be comfortable working overnight hours.

Some flexibility may occasionally be required around major releases, deployments, or critical issues, but this is not intended to be a 24/7 on-call position.


COMPENSATION

$25,000-$40,000 annual cash base, depending on experience and technical level, plus startup equity.

For an exceptional candidate with true Staff-level capabilities, we are open to discussing compensation above this range.

We are looking for someone who can grow with the company and take on increasingly significant technical ownership.

- You understand the product well enough to challenge technical assumptions

Ultimately, we want technical leadership to be able to say:

“I can give this person a difficult problem and trust them to own it.”

You've previously worked in an early-stage or high-growth B2B SaaS company where you had significant ownership, operated with limited bureaucracy, and had to move quickly without sacrificing engineering quality.
