JOB OVERVIEW

We are a UK-based company developing a technology platform combining education, e-commerce, user accounts and an AI-powered assessment service.

The platform has already had development work completed by separate web and AI developers. We are now looking for an experienced senior developer to take technical ownership of the project, audit the existing work, consolidate the development environment and continue the platform through to production.

This is not a new build from scratch. Your first responsibility will be to understand, document and safely take over the existing development.

The AI component has been developed separately as a FastAPI-based service and needs to be reviewed and integrated into the wider platform.
Your first assignment

Your first task will be a technical takeover and audit.

You will be required to review all GitHub repositories provided by the existing developers, independently back up the code, assess what is complete or incomplete, review the current web platform and AI service, identify missing dependencies, understand the current architecture, and confirm what is required to bring the system together.
I Development Responsibility

The platform includes an existing AI-powered skin assessment service that has been developed separately using Python/FastAPI. The successful developer will be expected to audit the current AI codebase, assess its quality and completeness, and determine whether it should be continued, refactored or partially rebuilt.

You may also be responsible for ongoing development of the AI functionality, including the assessment pipeline, API logic, prompts/model integrations, testing, optimisation, deployment and integration with the main platform.

We are therefore particularly interested in developers who are comfortable not only integrating AI services, but also taking technical ownership of an existing AI application and continuing its development where required.

You will also need to:

review Git history and branches;

assess the Python/FastAPI AI service;

review the WordPress platform;

review databases, APIs and integrations;

review Cloudways/deployment setup;

identify missing environment variables or credentials;

identify security issues and technical debt;

determine what is required to integrate the AI service with the web platform;

confirm whether the project can be rebuilt and deployed without relying on the previous developers;

produce a technical audit report;

provide a clear roadmap for completion.

Once the takeover is completed, the role may continue into ongoing development.
Ongoing responsibilities

The successful developer may take responsibility for frontend and backend development, Python/FastAPI development, API integrations, AI service integration, WordPress customisation, WooCommerce and TutorLMS integration, database development, user authentication, deployment, testing, bug fixing, GitHub management, staging and production environments, documentation, security and backups.
Essential experience

We are looking for someone with strong experience in Python, FastAPI, REST APIs, JavaScript, PHP, WordPress, WooCommerce, MySQL/databases, Git/GitHub, cloud/server deployment, API integrations, debugging existing codebases and taking over projects from previous developers.

Experience with AI/LLM integrations, OpenAI or similar APIs, embeddings, vector databases, machine-learning pipelines or AI deployments would be highly desirable.
Important

We need somebody who is comfortable inheriting somebody else’s code.

Please do not apply if your normal approach is to automatically rebuild a project from scratch before properly reviewing the existing system.

Our priority is to preserve the work already completed and determine what can be reused before making any rebuild decisions.
