Senior Accountant / Controller (QuickBooks) – Construction & Real Estate
We are an entrepreneurial organization with diverse holdings in real estate development, construction, private investments, and related operating businesses. We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant / Controller to oversee financial operations, strengthen financial systems, and support ownership in making informed decisions around projects, growth, and capital deployment.
This role is responsible for the financial management of a project-based construction ensuring accurate accounting, job costing, and financial reporting across multiple entities. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with practical experience in construction accounting and QuickBooks, and thrives in a hands-on, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities using QuickBooks, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
Manage construction job costing, project budgets, WIP tracking, and cost allocation across multiple projects.
Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, cash flow forecasts, and project performance reports.
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling to support project planning and strategic decisions.
Manage multi-entity accounting, including intercompany transactions, consolidations, and cash management.
Ensure proper revenue recognition, project accounting, and cost tracking for construction and development activities.
Partner with ownership to evaluate new development opportunities, investments, and project feasibility.
Develop and maintain financial controls, processes, and reporting systems to support a growing organization.
Coordinate with external CPAs, tax professionals, lenders, and auditors.
Support draw requests, lender reporting, and capital planning for construction and development projects.
Supervise and mentor accounting staff as the organization grows.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required).
5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, development, or project-based businesses.
Strong proficiency in QuickBooks and job-cost accounting.
Experience with multi-entity accounting and financial reporting.
Strong understanding of construction financials, WIP schedules, and project budgeting.
Highly organized with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Comfortable operating in a hands-on, entrepreneurial environment where priorities move quickly.
