ABOUT US

We run Cocktail Week - city-wide cocktail festivals across more than 20 cities in the UK and Ireland, including Belfast, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, Cardiff, Dublin and Cork.

We sell wristbands that give people access to discounted cocktails across dozens of partner bars in their city. Our website runs on WordPress, and we work with over 500 partner venues.

THE CHALLENGE (please read - this shapes the whole role)

Our event names are only searched for about six weeks a year. "Belfast Cocktail Week" is busy in October and almost silent in March.

So the job is not just ranking for our event names. It is building content that ranks all year round for the things people in our cities actually search for - the best cocktail bars in Liverpool, where to drink in Newcastle, things to do in Belfast this weekend - and turning that traffic into people on our mailing list who buy tickets when our events come round.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

TECHNICAL FOUNDATIONS
- Full technical audit of our website and a prioritised plan to fix what matters
- Help us sort out our domain structure (we own a lot of city domains and need a proper strategy for them)
- Add event structured data across all our city and event pages
- Fix page titles, meta descriptions, heading structure and image alt text across our city and venue pages

CONTENT AND KEYWORDS
- Keyword research for each of our cities, covering both year-round and seasonal search
- Brief and optimise our city cocktail bar guides
- Optimise our venue listing pages (we have 500+)
- Plan seasonal content far enough ahead that it ranks in time

LOCAL SEO AND LINKS
- Run a link programme with our partner venues - they are real businesses in the cities we want to rank in, and most of them would happily link to us if asked properly
- Keep our local listings and citations accurate and consistent
- Track how we rank against local competitors in each city

REPORTING
- Set up and maintain Google Search Console and GA4 properly
- Track rankings by city and keyword group
- Monthly reporting that connects rankings to traffic to mailing list sign-ups

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

- Real hands-on SEO experience. Not theory - sites you have actually worked on and can talk about.
- Experience with LOCAL SEO. Understanding how the map pack works and how it differs from normal organic ranking.
- Experience in HOSPITALITY is strongly preferred - bars, restaurants, hotels, venues, events or tourism. This sector behaves differently from ecommerce and we would rather not teach it.
- Comfortable with technical SEO - crawling, redirects, schema markup, site speed
- Confident with Google Search Console, GA4 and a keyword tool such as Ahrefs or Semrush
- WordPress experience
- Able to explain your reasoning clearly in writing, including when you disagree with us
- Honest about what SEO can and cannot do, and how long it takes

NICE TO HAVE (NOT REQUIRED)

- Experience with event or ticketing websites
- Experience with multi-location or multi-city businesses
- Schema markup and structured data
- Any view on how AI search assistants are changing search, and what to do about it

Please note: we are not interested in guaranteed rankings, backlink packages or anything similar. We are looking for someone who works properly and explains their thinking.

Shortlisted applicants will be given a paid trial task before we make any hiring decision. We pay for the trial regardless of the outcome.

This is a long-term role. SEO takes time and we understand that - we are looking for someone who will still be with us in two years.
