General Summary
The Residential Architect plays a critical role in the design and delivery of residential projects for JRH Engineering. The position is responsible for producing high-quality architectural drawings, construction documents, and design solutions that meet client expectations, local building codes, and project timelines. The Residential Architect collaborates closely with the engineering team, project managers, and clients to ensure that all deliverables reflect JRH Engineering's commitment to excellence.
Job Description:
The Residential Architect position will be responsible for the following tasks:
Develop architectural designs and construction documents for residential projects
Produce floor plans, elevations, sections, and detail drawings
Prepare specifications, schedules, and design narratives
Ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes, zoning ordinances, and HOA requirements
Coordinate with the civil engineering team on site planning and infrastructure
Collaborate on grading, drainage, utility layouts, and site access
Resolve design conflicts between architectural and civil/structural elements
Manage project documentation and design revisions throughout all project phases
Maintain organized drawing sets and version control
Track and incorporate client and jurisdictional review comments
Support the permitting and entitlement process
Prepare permit submittal packages for applicable US jurisdictions
Respond to plan check comments and coordinate with reviewing agencies
Provide Quality Assurance and Quality Control on all assigned projects
Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and code compliance before submission
Identify and resolve design discrepancies early in the project lifecycle
Communicate project status, design challenges, and schedule impacts to the Director of Design
Support client interactions and design presentations as requested
Prepare visual materials (renderings, diagrams) to facilitate client understanding
Other tasks as requested by the leadership team
Qualifications
Minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in residential architecture
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution
Licensed Architect (or actively pursuing licensure) preferred
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit; experience with SketchUp or other visualization tools is a plus
Working knowledge of US residential building codes (IRC), zoning regulations, and permitting processes
Strong technical drawing skills with a high attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
Experience working with US-based clients or on US residential projects is strongly preferred
Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a remote environment while collaborating with a distributed team
