About Us
Industrial Electronic Systems, Inc. (IES) is a U.S.-based fire alarm and life safety systems company serving commercial customers in Northern California. We specialize in fire alarm design, installation, inspections, and low voltage systems integration.
About the Role
We are hiring a Remote Engineering Support specialist to help our U.S. engineering team design and document low voltage and fire alarm systems for commercial buildings. This is a hands-on engineering role — you'll model in BIM, draft in CAD, research code, and produce real deliverables for active construction projects.
We need someone who is:
• A strong CAD and BIM modeler (this is non-negotiable)
• Experienced with low voltage system design
• Comfortable with NFPA 72 / NEC code research (fire alarm experience is a big plus)
• A self-starter who can solve design challenges independently
• Detail-obsessed — drawings, layers, sheet sets, and revisions all done right

Key Responsibilities
CAD & BIM Engineering
• Produce 2D AutoCAD drawings — device layouts, risers, wiring diagrams, system details, and submittal sets.
• Build and maintain 3D BIM models (Revit / Navisworks) for low voltage and fire alarm systems.
• Set up sheets, viewports, title blocks, layers, and XREFs to company CAD standards.
• Coordinate clash detection and drawing updates with the broader project model.
Low Voltage & Fire Alarm Design Support
• Assist in designing NFPA-compliant fire alarm systems (device layout, spacing, placement).
• Support design of access control, intrusion, structured cabling, and other low voltage systems.
• Identify code-driven requirements — smoke/heat detector spacing, notification coverage, strobe candela placement, circuit routing and survivability.
• Review architectural and electrical drawings for design impact and coordination.
Research & Problem Solving
• Look up AHJ requirements (city/state fire department standards).
• Compare NFPA 72 / NEC requirements against local code amendments.
• Document findings and communicate design impacts to U.S. engineers.
• Identify missing information in plans and propose solutions before they become RFIs.
Submittals & Closeout
• Create submittal drawings, cut sheets, and product data packages.
• Update as-built drawings from field markups.
• Maintain version control and clean project files throughout the job lifecycle.

• Strong BIM skills in Revit and/or Navisworks — required.
• Solid understanding of low voltage systems (fire alarm, access control, security, structured cabling).
• Fire alarm experience is a big plus — NFPA 72, NEC, AHJ familiarity preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans.
• Strong analytical skills and willingness to research code/AHJ requirements.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Reliable workstation, stable internet, and willingness to overlap with U.S. Pacific Time.
