Remote CPA for a Growing UK Accounting Practice — Long-Term Role, Full Training Given
Only CPAs (or equivalent) will be considered. You must be reliably available during UK daytime hours (10am–2pm UK time, Monday to Friday).
About us
I'm Keith, a UK Chartered Accountant (ICAEW), and I run a small, fast-growing accounting practice serving UK small and medium-sized businesses. We're modern, tech-forward, and genuinely client-focused, currently supported by excellent Filipino accountants. As our client base grows, we're looking for another talented professional to join us remotely for the long term.
The role
We need a proactive, detail-oriented accountant who takes real ownership of client work — not someone who waits to be told what to do. Your work will include:
Bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, and journal entries
Preparing VAT returns and monthly management accounts
Annual statutory filings and financial reporting
Supporting our fractional CFO services — forecasting, analysis, and advisory
Speaking directly with clients where needed, by
No UK experience? That's fine — we'll train you. You don't need to know UK VAT, Making Tax Digital, or UK compliance already. If you're a strong accountant with solid fundamentals, we'll teach you the UK side properly.
What I can't teach is initiative, judgement, care, and the ability to own a piece of work end to end and make a client feel looked after — those matter most to me. So if you've owned client relationships and run with them before, do tell me.
Who we're looking for
A CPA or equivalent — this is essential
3+ years of solid accounting experience
Able to work around 20 hours to start, growing towards full-time as we take on clients — reliably present and alert during 10am–2pm UK time, Monday to Friday, with your other hours flexible
Committed to this role for the long term as your main focus
Genuinely strong, warm communication — clients should enjoy dealing with you
Confident with accounting software (Xero and/or QuickBooks) and happy to learn more
Owning client relationships directly is a real plus — I want someone who takes the lead on their own clients, not someone who waits for instructions
You'll own your own clients, with a colleague reviewing your work before filing and you reviewing theirs — a supportive, no-blame way of keeping our standards high
Hours and pay
This is a part-time role — around 20 hours a week, growing to 40 hours as we take on new clients — for someone looking for one long-term home. I need genuine, reliable availability during 10am–2pm UK time, Monday to Friday, with the rest of your hours flexible around that.
From £8 per hour to start. Rises follow as your skills and UK knowledge grow.
Paid monthly via Wise (you cover the transfer fee), plus a discretionary bonus each Christmas.
This is a self-employed contractor role, not employment — you'll invoice us monthly and are responsible for your own local taxes.
What we offer
100% remote, with flexible hours within your agreed UK availability
A friendly, respectful, tech-savvy team that actually enjoys the work
Real variety — a range of UK clients and financial challenges
Proper training and mentoring from an experienced UK Chartered Accountant
Genuine room to grow into reporting, forecasting, and advisory
A stable, long-term role in a business that's expanding
Real flexibility — as long as you're reliably present during our core UK hours, how you arrange the rest of your day is yours

What happens next: shortlisted applicants complete a brief spoken interview — a relaxed ten-minute phone conversation, done through your browser, no scheduling needed. We do this because a real conversation tells us far more than a written form, and it gives you the chance to show us who you are. After that, the strongest candidates have a Zoom interview with me, then a paid trial with the aim of a lasting partnership.
Please answer the form honestly and thoroughly. We're building something long-term, and we're looking for someone who wants to build it with us.
