About us
We are a growing UK-based accountancy practice building out a modern, remote-first finance team. We look after limited companies and owner-managed businesses, and we're expanding our services. This starts as a part-time role (2–3 days a week) with a genuine route to full-time as the practice grows - so it's ideal for someone who wants to grow with the business, not just take on a short project. We hire for years, not months.
The role
You'll work directly with the practice owner and, over time, liaise with clients. Day to day this includes:
- Bookkeeping, bank reconciliations and management accounts in Xero and QuickBooks Online
- Preparing and reviewing UK VAT returns
- Supporting year-end accounts, Corporation Tax and PAYE processes
- Requesting records from clients, chasing information, and answering client queries professionally
- Using AI tools sensibly to work faster - without blindly trusting the output
You MUST have (do not apply unless ALL of these are true)
- 5+ years working with UK accounting practices (UK client experience is essential - US or Australia-only experience will not qualify)
- A formal accounting qualification (e.g. CPA, or UK ACCA/ACA/AAT part- or fully-qualified)
- Expert-level Xero AND QuickBooks Online - certification strongly preferred
- Solid working knowledge of UK tax: VAT, Corporation Tax and PAYE
- Excellent written and spoken English - you will communicate directly with me and with clients, so this cannot be a barrier
- A reliable high-speed internet connection and a quiet space to take video calls
Nice to have
- Experience in a Virtual Finance Office / outsourced practice setting
- Comfort building simple efficiencies (templates, workflows, light automation)
- Experience with tools like Dext, Hubdoc, or similar
- How we work with AI
We use AI to gain efficiencies, and we want someone who's comfortable doing the same - but who understands its limits and always checks the numbers. If you either refuse to use AI or over-rely on it without reviewing its work, this isn't the right fit.
What we offer
- Competitive hourly rate, based on experience (please state your expected hourly rate when you apply)
- Part-time now, with the clear aim of moving to full-time for the right person as we grow
- Long-term stability and genuine room to grow as the practice grows
- 13th month pay
- Paid leave and Filipino public holidays honoured
- Direct access to, and mentoring from, the practice owner
Working hours
Remote, part-time to start - around 2–3 days (roughly 16–24 hours) per week, with a genuine path to full-time as we grow. You'll need meaningful overlap with UK business hours (GMT/BST) for calls and client contact, and we can agree which days suit you best.
How to apply (read carefully - this is the filter)
To be considered, your application must include all of the following, in this order:
- Begin your message with the single word: RECONCILED (this tells me you read the full advert).
- A short paragraph on your UK practice experience - which firms/clients, and for how long.
- Answer these three quick questions in one or two sentences each (no essays):
- What is the current UK VAT registration threshold?
- In plain English, when would a business use the VAT Flat Rate Scheme rather than standard VAT accounting?
- Name one thing you've automated or sped up using AI or a Xero/QuickBooks feature, and how you checked it was correct.
- Confirm your Xero and QuickBooks certification status.
- A 2–3 minute video (a simple screen or selfie recording is fine) introducing yourself and telling me why this role suits you. This lets me hear your English and see how you communicate.
Applications missing any of these - or starting with anything other than RECONCILED - will not be reviewed. I'd rather receive 10 careful applications than 200 copy-pasted ones.
