Cooper is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to support the design, review, coordination, and execution of residential, commercial, and government construction projects.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of structural design, construction methods, building codes, and project coordination. This role requires close collaboration with architects, engineers, project managers, subcontractors, consultants, and field teams to ensure that structural work is safe, code-compliant, constructible, and completed according to approved plans and specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and review structural designs, calculations, drawings, and technical specifications.
Design and evaluate structural systems involving concrete, steel, masonry, wood, and light-gauge metal framing.
Review architectural and engineering drawings for structural coordination and constructability.
Identify conflicts, missing information, design discrepancies, and potential structural issues.
Prepare and respond to RFIs, submittals, technical inquiries, and design clarification requests.
Review structural shop drawings, product data, calculations, and delegated-design submittals.
Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, consultants, subcontractors, and project managers.
Provide structural recommendations for renovations, additions, repairs, and new construction.
Assist with value engineering and development of practical, cost-effective structural solutions.
Review existing site conditions and evaluate structural modifications.
Prepare sketches, markups, reports, design narratives, and technical correspondence.
Support field teams with structural questions and construction-related issues.
Verify compliance with applicable building codes, standards, contract drawings, and project specifications.
Review change orders and proposed substitutions that may affect structural performance.
Assist with permitting, inspections, special inspections, testing, and project closeout requirements.
Maintain complete and organized engineering records and project documentation.
Communicate structural risks, recommendations, and required corrective actions clearly to management.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
At least 3 years of structural engineering experience on U.S.-based construction projects.
Strong knowledge of structural analysis and design principles.
Experience with reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, wood, and light-gauge framing systems.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings.
Familiarity with U.S. building codes, design standards, permitting requirements, and construction practices.
Experience reviewing shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, calculations, and field conditions.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and structural design software.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines independently.
Detail-oriented, proactive, dependable, and comfortable working in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineer license
Experience with New York City or Florida construction projects.
Familiarity with the International Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC standards, and applicable local codes.
Experience with residential renovations, commercial interiors, additions, and government projects.
Knowledge of NYC Department of Buildings filings, special inspections, and structural sign-off procedures.
Experience coordinating with contractors, architects, inspectors, and engineering consultants.
