Project Cost Engineer / Assistant Project Manager
Job Type: Full-Time
Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM Pacific Time, with a 1-hour break
Job Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and analytical Project Cost Engineer / Assistant Project Manager with hands-on construction industry experience, preferably in architectural sheet metal, aluminum composite material (ACM) panels, exterior cladding, or building envelope systems. The ideal candidate must have experience using Sage 300 CRE and Procore to monitor project costs, track field productivity, and evaluate financial performance.
This role combines construction cost engineering with project management support, focusing on cost control, labor productivity, cost-to-complete forecasting, and early identification of potential cost overruns. The ideal candidate understands construction operations, can interpret financial and field-production data, and proactively recommends corrective actions to protect project profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
* Monitor project budgets, actual costs, purchase orders, subcontract commitments, and remaining costs for architectural sheet metal, ACM panel, exterior cladding, and building envelope projects.
* Reconcile Sage 300 CRE financial data with Procore daily reports, labor hours, installed quantities, and project progress.
* Analyze labor productivity and compare actual performance against estimated production rates to identify inefficiencies.
* Prepare realistic cost-to-complete forecasts and flag projects trending over budget before substantial losses occur.
* Review field reports for extra work, scope changes, delays, and potential change orders; organize supporting documentation for project manager review.
* Assist with purchase orders, subcontract commitments, cost coding, project documentation, and other assistant project management duties.
* Provide concise morning summaries and weekly reports highlighting budget variances, productivity concerns, outstanding issues, potential change orders, and recommended corrective actions.
* Coordinate with accounting, project managers, and field teams to investigate discrepancies and obtain missing information.
Improve reporting through Excel, automation, and appropriate AI tools, verifying accuracy against source records.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Industrial Engineering required.
* Relevant experience in construction cost engineering, project controls, or subcontractor cost management.
* Direct experience with architectural sheet metal, ACM panels, exterior cladding, or building envelope construction strongly preferred.
* Hands-on proficiency in Sage 300 CRE, including job costing, purchase orders, commitments, and budget tracking.
* Hands-on proficiency in Procore, including daily reports, labor hours, project progress, documentation, and change orders.
* Strong understanding of construction installation methods, labor productivity, cost forecasting, and change-order documentation.
* Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup formulas, and financial reconciliations.
* Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, estimates, and scope documents; Bluebeam experience preferred.
* Proactive and analytical, with the ability to investigate discrepancies, ask informed questions, and recommend practical solutions independently.
* Strong written and spoken English.
* Availability to work 7:00 AM–4:00 PM Pacific Time.
****Applicants must clearly disclose if they lack experience with Sage 300 CRE or Procore. Shortlisted candidates will complete a practical technical assessment****
Note: An NBI or police clearance will be required upon acceptance of the job offer.
