JOB OVERVIEW

Astute Early Years Specialists is an Australian early childhood education consultancy based in Brisbane, supporting childcare providers across Australia. We're hiring a full-time, remote Payroll Coordinator to run our payroll end-to-end using Employment Hero — someone who knows Australian payroll inside out and wants to own it, not just process it.
This is a direct-hire role (not through an agency) — you'll work closely with our Finance, Operations & People & Culture team.

We are based in Australia (AEST), so your timezone lines up well with ours — that is a genuine plus for us.

What You'll do:

● Process payroll in Employment Hero for multiple centres and their staff each pay cycle — new starters, terminations, leave, timesheets, allowances, overtime, salary changes

● Lodge Single Touch Payroll (STP2) each pay run

● Calculate and process superannuation guarantee contributions (SuperStream)

● Handle PAYG withholding and end-of-financial-year finalisation

● Apply correct award interpretation (Children's Services Award 2010 and others) under the Fair Work Act

● Keep on top of Fair Work Commission wage reviews and award updates

● Maintain accurate employee records and keep Employment Hero configured properly (pay rules, leave rules, reporting)

● Prepare payroll reports — labour cost, leave liability, payroll tax reconciliations

● Be the first point of contact for staff payroll questions

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

● 4+ years running end-to-end payroll for an Australian business
● Hands-on Employment Hero experience — this is essential, not a “nice to have”
● Strong knowledge of Australian payroll compliance: PAYG, STP2, super guarantee, NES, modern awards
● Confidence interpreting and applying Modern Awards
● High attention to detail and comfortable owning deadlines
● Excellent written and spoken English
● Ability to work a shift with real-time overlap into Australian business hours (AEST/AEDT)
● Reliable high-speed internet and a proper home-office setup

Nice to Have:
● Payroll experience in the Australian childcare/ECEC sector, including the Children's Services Award
● Experience working remotely for an Australian employer
● Certificate IV in Payroll Administration or similar
