2D Character Artist — Painted Style — Indie Unity Game
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Ores & Odds is a mining-and-gambling game built in Unity by a solo developer
(DigiKerr). You break ore, press your luck, and try to win back a mine from the
man who took it. The game is playable start to finish, has a demo and an active
playtest group, and is heading to Kickstarter and Steam Early Access.
THE WORK
I'm hiring an artist to create the game's final 2D character art. The art
currently in the build is placeholder work made to prototype the game, and it's
being replaced with human-drawn art. You'd work from that placeholder art plus
written design notes as reference and produce the real thing.
The cast: Wick (an old miner who lost his mine), Jesper Crooke (the charming and
dangerous man who owns it now), a merchant, a set of collectible "Folk"
characters, and background miners. A style reference is attached — this is the
look the whole cast needs to match.
REQUIRED SKILLS
1. Stylized 2D character illustration, with demonstrated ability to match a
provided style reference rather than work in your own style. Please link
examples where you drew to someone else's style guide or existing property.
2. Game-ready delivery in layered, separable parts. The characters are cut-out
puppets — head, torso and arms animate separately — so I need layered source
files with elements on their own layers, not flattened images.
3. Consistency across a cast and across states: the same character recognizable
across multiple poses, expressions and props. Expression sheets or sprite
sheets in your portfolio are ideal.
DELIVERABLES
- Layered source files (PSD or equivalent), elements on separate layers
- Transparent PNG exports at agreed resolution
- Consistent sizing and pivot alignment across the cast
TO APPLY
- Link a portfolio including at least one example of style-matched work
- Confirm you can deliver layered files with separable parts
- Begin your reply with the word PICKAXE so I know you read this post.
