The Role
We're looking for a curious, detail-obsessed App Research Analyst to become our eyes and ears on the competition. Your job is simple but critical: find the best apps in our space, tear apart how they acquire users and convert them into paying customers, and bring those insights back to the team in a way that's clear and actionable.
This isn't a "fill out a spreadsheet and forget it" role. You'll be a key voice in product and marketing discussions, surfacing patterns and opportunities the team would otherwise miss.
What You'll Do
Competitor Funnels & Onboarding
Download, sign up for, and walk through competitor apps end to end — from first open to paywall
Screen-record and document every step of onboarding flows, free trials, and upgrade prompts
Identify what's working: friction points, persuasion techniques, timing of paywalls, personalisation tactics
Track how competitors change and test their funnels over time
Ad Creatives & User Acquisition Campaigns
Monitor competitor ads across Meta, TikTok, Google, and Apple Search Ads using tools like Meta Ad Library, TikTok Creative Center, and similar platforms
Catalogue ad formats, hooks, messaging angles, and creative styles
Flag high-performing or long-running creatives and explain why they likely work
Spot emerging trends in ad creative before they become obvious
Reporting & Collaboration
Organise findings into clear, visual reports (screenshots, screen recordings, annotated breakdowns)
Present weekly insights to the team with your own commentary — not just raw data, but your take on what matters
Maintain a living competitor database that the team can reference any time
Suggest concrete ideas inspired by what you've found — "We should try X because competitor Y is doing it and here's why it works"
Who You Are
You're naturally curious — you download apps for fun and notice the details others skip
You have strong analytical instincts — you don't just see what competitors do, you think about why
You communicate clearly in written English — your reports are easy to scan and act on
You're comfortable with screen recording tools and organising visual research
You're proactive — you don't wait to be told what to research next
Experience with mobile apps, digital marketing, or subscription/SaaS products is a strong plus
Familiarity with tools like Meta Ad Library, Sensor Tower, AppMagic, or similar is a bonus (but we'll train you)
