This is a hands-on position for someone who already has a strong understanding of Shopify development and technical SEO and can work independently to identify problems, determine the appropriate solutions, implement improvements, and measure the results.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day technical health of our Shopify website, working alongside our content and marketing team and an outside SEO consultant who will provide strategic guidance.
We are looking for someone who can step into the role and take ownership — not someone who needs training in technical SEO.
What You'll Do
Shopify Development
-Customize, maintain, and improve our Shopify theme
-Write, modify, and troubleshoot Shopify Liquid
-Develop and implement custom theme sections, templates, and functionality
-Make HTML, CSS, and JavaScript updates as needed
-Troubleshoot website issues and identify the root cause of technical problems
-Implement website improvements that enhance performance, usability, and the customer experience
-Work with Shopify products, collections, navigation, metafields, templates, and other site structures
Technical SEO & Website Performance
-Take ownership of the site's day-to-day technical SEO
-Independently audit the website to identify technical SEO issues and opportunities
-Monitor and improve page speed, Core Web Vitals, and overall website performance
-Identify and resolve issues affecting crawling, indexing, and organic search visibility
-Optimize Shopify theme code, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, scripts, and other technical elements that affect site performance
-Manage technical SEO elements, including canonical tags, redirects, robots.txt, XML sitemaps, metadata, and indexing
-Implement and maintain structured data/schema markup
-Identify and resolve duplicate content, URL structure, and other technical SEO issues
-Evaluate site architecture and internal linking from a technical SEO perspective
-Monitor Google Search Console for indexing, crawling, and search performance issues
-Use SEMrush to perform technical SEO audits, monitor site health, identify issues, and track improvements
-Use tools such as PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and SEMrush to diagnose problems and measure results
-Stay current with Shopify, Google, and technical SEO best practices
-Reporting & Measuring Results
An important part of this role is demonstrating the impact of your work.
You will be expected to:
-Establish baseline performance and SEO metrics
-Create and maintain regular reports documenting technical SEO work and website improvements
-Clearly explain what issues were identified, what actions were taken, and why
-Track the results of technical changes over time
-Use data from SEMrush, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and other tools to measure progress
-Identify additional opportunities for improvement based on performance data
-Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to the website and management teams
We don't expect you to simply tell us that the website is improving — we want to understand what you found, what you changed, and how the data demonstrates the impact.
What We're Looking For
Required:
-Proven professional experience with Shopify development
-Strong hands-on experience with Shopify Liquid
-Demonstrated experience with technical SEO, preferably for an e-commerce website
-Experience independently conducting technical SEO audits and implementing solutions
-Strong understanding of website performance optimization and Core Web Vitals
-Experience diagnosing and resolving technical SEO issues rather than simply identifying them
-Experience with SEMrush or a comparable professional SEO platform
-Experience with Google Search Console and Google Analytics
-Strong HTML and CSS skills
-Working knowledge of JavaScript
-Understanding of crawlability, indexation, canonicalization, redirects, XML sitemaps, robots.txt, structured data, and site architecture
-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
-Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects from identification through implementation and measurement
-Ability to communicate technical findings and results clearly to non-technical team members
Preferred:
-Experience with Shopify Plus
-Experience optimizing large e-commerce websites
-Experience improving Core Web Vitals and Shopify site speed
-Experience with SEMrush or similar technical SEO crawling tools
-Experience working with Google Tag Manager and analytics/tracking implementations
-Experience working with SEO consultants or agencies
This Is a Hands-On Role
We already have a content writer who handles our content needs, so this position is not primarily focused on writing content, blog posts, or product descriptions.
We also have an outside SEO consultant who can provide strategic direction and recommendations. However, the person in this position will be responsible for the day-to-day technical execution and ongoing management of our website's SEO and performance.
We're looking for someone who can review a website, identify when something isn't right, investigate the cause, determine the best solution, implement the fix, and measure the results.
You should be comfortable working independently and bringing problems and opportunities to the team rather than waiting for someone else to identify them.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: 1,500 USD per Month
Benefits: 5 days of paid vacation, Christmas Day and New Year's Day paid holidays, 13th check in December, raise and bonus based on performance on the anniversary of your hire date.
Schedule: 8 AM to 4 PM EST until work is established. Depending on performance, the schedule may be adjusted to your preferred hours at a later date.
How to Apply
Please submit your resume and include examples of Shopify development and/or technical SEO work you have completed. If possible, provide examples of websites you have helped improve and describe the technical issues you identified, the solutions you implemented, and the results. If you have a sample technical SEO audit/report you have created previously, with the confidential information removed, please include it in your application.
