About STEAM Ahead
STEAM Ahead is a Boston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education for historically underrepresented youth.
Through hands-on learning programs, leadership initiatives, and workforce development experiences, STEAM Ahead helps students explore STEM careers, develop problem-solving skills, and build confidence in their abilities.
Our organization partners with schools, universities, corporate leaders, and community organizations to create innovative learning experiences that prepare young people for the future.
As our programs continue to grow, we are building a strong marketing and communications function to help amplify our impact and expand awareness of our work.
Overview of the Role:
The Marketing & Communications Manager will lead the execution of STEAM Ahead’s marketing and communications initiatives.
Working closely with the organization’s CMO / Marketing Leader, this role will help implement marketing strategy, manage external communications, oversee digital marketing activities, and coordinate storytelling efforts across the organization.
This position plays a key role in expanding STEAM Ahead’s digital presence, strengthening engagement with partners and supporters, and ensuring consistent communication of the organization’s mission and program impact.
This is a hands-on role that combines strategic coordination with direct execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Marketing Strategy Execution
- Execute marketing initiatives aligned with the organization’s marketing strategy
- Work closely with the CMO / Marketing Leader to implement campaigns and outreach initiatives
- Develop and manage marketing timelines and campaign plans
- Coordinate marketing activities across programs and organizational initiatives
- External Communications
- Lead the organization’s outward-facing communications, including:
- Monthly newsletters
- Program announcements
- Partnership highlights
- Event promotions
- Student success stories
- Organizational updates
- Ensure messaging is clear, engaging, and aligned with the STEAM Ahead mission.
Content & Storytelling - Develop compelling storytelling that highlights the impact of STEAM Ahead’s programs.
This may include:
- Student spotlights
- Program impact stories
- Partner and sponsor features
- Blog articles and website updates
- Case studies and impact narratives
- Work with designers and content creators to develop engaging multimedia content.
Digital Marketing & Online Presence - Support the growth of STEAM Ahead’s digital visibility by managing and improving:
- Website content and structure
- Search engine optimization (SEO)
- Social media marketing strategy

- Digital outreach campaigns
Performance Marketing & Analytics - Track and evaluate marketing performance across digital platforms.
Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring website traffic and performance using Google Analytics
- Tracking engagement and growth across social media platforms
- Managing performance metrics for digital campaigns
- Monitoring
- Producing monthly marketing performance reports - Insights from these reports will help guide future marketing initiatives.
Marketing Operations & Coordination - Coordinate the day-to-day workflow of the marketing team.
Responsibilities may include:
- Managing marketing calendars and content schedules
- Coordinating with graphic designers, social media managers, and content creators
- Maintaining brand consistency across marketing materials
- Organizing digital marketing assets and documentation
Tools & Skills - Experience with the following tools is preferred:
- Google Analytics
- Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive)
- Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar
- Social media management tools (Buffer, Hootsuite, Later, etc.)
- Content management systems (WordPress or similar)
- Canva or basic design tools
- Experience with digital advertising platforms is a plus:
- Meta Ads Manager
- LinkedIn Ads
- Google Ads
Qualifications - Ideal candidates will have:
- 3–6 years of experience in marketing, communications, or digital marketing
- Strong writing and storytelling abilities
- Experience managing newsletters and external communications
- Familiarity with SEO and digital marketing strategies
- Experience analyzing marketing performance and reporting metrics
- Strong organizational and project management skills
Experience working with nonprofits, education organizations, or mission-driven initiatives is a plus.
Additional Qualifications (Preferred but not required)
The following experience is not required but would be highly valuable in this role:
**E-Commerce & Digital Revenue Experience**
- Experience supporting or managing online stores or digital product platforms (Shopify, WooCommerce, Squarespace Commerce, etc.)
- Familiarity with conversion-focused marketing strategies, including landing pages and digital sales funnels
- Experience marketing online merchandise, event tickets, or educational resources
- Understanding of conversion tracking and campaign performance
**CRM & Donor Platform Experience**
- Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) systems such as HubSpot, Salesforce, Bloomerang, or similar platforms
- Experience working with nonprofit donor management platforms
- Ability to support donor communications, segmentation, and
- Experience using CRM data to improve audience targeting and engagement strategies
Compensation - Compensation depends on experience and availability.
