MSP RMM & Proactive IT Operations Engineer – Monitoring, Automation & Support
Job Overview
We are a growing U.S.-based Managed Service Provider (MSP) looking for an experienced RMM & Proactive IT Operations Engineer to join our team.
This position is for someone who understands how an MSP should proactively manage client environments using an RMM platform—not simply respond to tickets when users report problems.
Our current RMM platform is Atera, but deep Atera experience is NOT required.
We are open to candidates with strong hands-on experience using platforms such as Atera, NinjaOne, ConnectWise RMM/Automate, Datto RMM, Kaseya, N-able, Syncro, or similar MSP tools.
If you understand RMM monitoring, thresholds, patching, scripting, automation, endpoint health, alert management and proactive remediation, we can help you learn our Atera environment.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Your primary responsibility will be helping us proactively monitor, maintain and improve the IT environments of our managed clients.
You will eventually be expected to take significant ownership of our RMM environment, identify areas for improvement and recommend better ways of monitoring and managing our clients.
Responsibilities include:
* Monitor servers and workstations across multiple MSP clients
* Review and respond to RMM alerts
* Configure and improve monitoring policies and thresholds
* Identify and reduce unnecessary alert noise
* Monitor CPU, memory, disk utilization, Windows services and endpoint health
* Identify problems before users report them
* Manage Windows patching and patch compliance
* Troubleshoot failed patches and maintenance jobs
* Create and maintain RMM automation policies
* Create, modify and deploy scripts where appropriate
* Automate repetitive maintenance and remediation tasks
* Monitor offline and unhealthy endpoints
* Review endpoint security and general system health
* Assist with onboarding new client environments and endpoints
* Maintain clear documentation
* Create proactive reports and recommendations
* Continuously look for ways to improve our RMM configuration and MSP processes
Atera
RJ Technology Professionals currently uses Atera as our primary RMM and PSA platform.
Previous Atera experience is a strong plus, but it is not a requirement.
If your experience is with another RMM platform, you should understand the underlying concepts well enough to transition those skills into Atera.
Over time, we want the person in this position to help take ownership of Atera by:
* Auditing our existing configuration
* Improving monitoring profiles and thresholds
* Improving patch management
* Building automation
* Developing scripts
* Improving reporting
* Standardizing configurations across clients
* Reducing false or unnecessary alerts
* Improving proactive maintenance
* Developing RMM best practices
Tier 1 & Tier 2 Technical Support
This is not exclusively an RMM position.
You will also assist our team with day-to-day technical support and troubleshooting across multiple client environments.
You should have experience supporting or troubleshooting areas such as:
* Windows 10/11
* Windows Server
* Microsoft 365
* Active Directory
* Entra ID / Azure
* Outlook, Teams and OneDrive
* DNS and DHCP
* TCP/IP networking
* LAN/WAN and Wi-Fi
* VPN and remote access
* Printers and peripherals
* Backup systems
* Endpoint security
* Client-specific business applications
We do not expect you to already be an expert in every technology we support.
We do expect strong troubleshooting fundamentals, curiosity, good research skills and the ability to learn unfamiliar systems.
Required Experience
Candidates should have:
* Previous MSP experience
* Hands-on experience with at least one professional RMM platform
* Experience supporting multiple customers or environments
* Understanding of RMM monitoring and alerting
* Understanding of monitoring thresholds
* Windows patch management experience
* Experience with endpoint monitoring
* Basic scripting or automation experience
* Windows troubleshooting skills
* Microsoft 365 support experience
* Basic networking knowledge
* Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
* Good written and spoken English
* Strong documentation habits
* Ability to work independently
* Ability to work full-time during U.S. Eastern Time business hours
RMM Experience
Experience with any of the following is relevant:
Atera, NinjaOne, ConnectWise RMM, ConnectWise Automate, Datto RMM, Kaseya VSA, N-able, Syncro, or similar platforms.
Nice to Have
Experience with any of the following is a plus:
* Atera
* PowerShell
* Microsoft 365 administration
* Azure / Entra ID
* Active Directory / Group Policy
* Windows Server
* Ubiquiti UniFi
* TP-Link Omada
* VoIP systems
* Backup and disaster recovery
* Endpoint security platforms
* PSA/ticketing systems
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with a proactive MSP mindset.
If there are no tickets waiting, you should naturally be asking:
* Are our endpoints healthy?
* Did patches install successfully?
* Are any servers running low on resources?
* Are important services stopped?
* Are devices unexpectedly offline?
* Are there recurring alerts we should fix permanently?
* Can a repetitive task be automated?
* Are there problems we can resolve before the client notices?
* What recommendations should we be making to the client?
We want someone who takes ownership instead of waiting to be told what to do next.
Schedule
Full-time – 40 hours per week
This position requires working during U.S. Eastern Time business hours.
Long-Term Growth
We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the company.
As your knowledge of our clients and systems expands, there will be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities involving RMM administration, Microsoft cloud technologies, networking, servers, automation and other MSP technologies.
How to Apply
Put the word PROACTIVE at the top of your application.
Please include your resume and answer the following questions:
1. Which RMM platforms have you personally used and for approximately how long?
2. What were your normal day-to-day responsibilities inside those RMM platforms?
3. What have you personally configured or changed inside an RMM rather than simply used?
4. Give one real example of an automation, script, monitoring policy or remediation that you personally implemented.
5. Give one example of a problem your RMM identified before the client reported it, and explain what you did.
6. What experience do you have with PowerShell or other scripting?
7. Briefly describe your experience with Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory and networking.
8. Approximately how many clients/endpoints did you support in your previous MSP position?
9. Are you available to work full-time during U.S. Eastern Time business hours?
Please be specific about what you personally did, rather than providing general descriptions of how an RMM works.
