Overview
We're a US based pet nutrition and supplement company based in St. Louis, Missouri, founded in 2017 focused on high-quality pet supplements, built around trust, transparency, and product integrity.
This role is not a support function. It is a leadership position within the offshore accounting team.
The Lead Accountant will take full ownership of core accounting operations, oversee a small team, and ensure financial accuracy across the business. This role requires someone who can operate independently, make sound decisions, and maintain a high standard without constant oversight.
Key Responsibilities
>Oversee and supervise Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) processes executed by staff
>Review and approve outgoing payments
>Perform and review bank reconciliations
>Prepare monthly journal entries and ensure accuracy
>Lead the month-end close process and ensure timelines are met
>Prepare audit support and documentation as required
>Review financials and journal entries for completeness and accuracy
>Own revenue reconciliations, including:
1) Retailer-specific rebates
2) Deduction mapping and reconciliation
>Identify gaps, improve processes, and maintain strong internal controls
Team Leadership
>Directly manage and support 2 offshore accounting staff
>Provide guidance, review work, and maintain accountability
>Set standards for accuracy, timeliness, and communication
What Success Looks Like
Month-end close is completed on time, every time, without follow-ups
Financials are clean, accurate, and require minimal revisions
AR and AP workflows run smoothly without bottlenecks
Revenue reconciliations are precise, with clear handling of rebates and deductions
Audit requests are fulfilled quickly with well-organised documentation
The offshore team operates with accountability and consistent output quality
Leadership does not need to chase updates or double-check core work
Ideal Candidate Profile
>Years of experience in accounting, with exposure to ecommerce or consumer products
>Experience leading or mentoring junior accountants
>Strong grasp of revenue reconciliation, including deductions and rebates
>Comfortable owning the month-end close process end-to-end
>Detail-oriented to a fault, with strong analytical thinking
>Direct communicator who can push back when needed
>Must be able to work Central U.S. hours consistently
