We are a growing Australian technology and local-media business hiring two careful researchers to analyse keywords, search intent and search-results pages for city-focused websites.
This is a long-term, remote, part-time independent-contractor role starting at approximately 20 hours per week. You will gather reliable evidence that an SEO strategist and editorial team can turn into decisions. This is not a bulk keyword-export or content-writing role; judgement, local relevance and clear documentation matter more than volume.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Research keywords and topics for Australian cities, local services, events, news and evergreen information.
• Analyse live search-results pages to identify intent, common result types, competitors and content gaps.
• Distinguish genuinely local opportunities from broad, irrelevant or misleading terms.
• Group related terms and flag possible duplication or cannibalisation.
• Record search volume, difficulty or trend data where tools are available, while clearly noting limitations.
• Compare competitor coverage, page formats, freshness and geographic relevance.
• Capture evidence with queries, URLs, dates, screenshots and concise observations.
• Prepare clean research sheets and short handover notes for the SEO strategist.
• Check existing work to avoid duplicate research.
• Raise unclear or conflicting findings instead of forcing a conclusion.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
• Hands-on keyword research and SERP-analysis experience.
• Strong web-research skills and excellent attention to detail.
• Good written English and the ability to explain search intent simply.
• Confidence using spreadsheets and organising large sets of terms consistently.
• Familiarity with tools such as Google Trends, Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, Semrush or comparable platforms.
• Reliable availability and accurate timekeeping.
HELPFUL EXPERIENCE
• Local SEO, multi-location websites, publishing or Australian search markets.
• Content-gap analysis, keyword clustering or competitor research.
• Working from documented research standards and quality checks.
ACCESS AND SECURITY
This role does not require privileged production access. Work will use public search results, public websites and approved research tools or supplied exports. Never include passwords, private analytics data, confidential reports or another client's proprietary research in your application. Shortlisted applicants may be asked to sign confidentiality and intellectual-property terms before receiving scoped internal information.
HOW SUCCESS WILL BE MEASURED
• Accurate, well-organised and non-duplicate research.
• Correct interpretation of search intent and local relevance.
• Evidence that another tea
• Clear handovers requiring little follow-up.
• Consistent output without sacrificing quality.
HOW TO APPLY
Apply through this platform with a short introduction, your CV or work history, your hourly rate within the advertised range, your weekly availability, and brief answers to the three questions below. Please keep each answer to 2–4 sentences. Generic applications that do not answer the questions will not be considered.

2. How would you d
3. Two similar keywords show different search results and intent. How would you document whether they should be grouped or treated separately?
PAID ASSESSMENT
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to a paid, time-boxed exercise using a supplied city and topic. You will analyse a small keyword set and live search results, then provide a concise evidence-based handover. No access to any live production system is required.
We offer long-term work, predictable weekly hours, clear research standards, respectful collaboration and the opportunity to support organic growth across an expanding local-media network.
