JOB OVERVIEW

I'm a Canadian web design agency owner looking for a Junior UI/UX & Graphic Designer to join me as a long-term subcontractor. I handle the client relationships and set the creative direction — you help me execute and build on it.
This is a growth role. I'm not looking for someone who has done everything already. I'm looking for someone with solid Figma fundamentals, a good eye, and the drive to learn fast. I will teach you how I work, how I think about design systems, and how to prepare files that developers can actually build from.

Schedule

6 hours per day, Monday to Friday (30 hrs/week)
EST overlap required — you need to be available during Canadian business hours for part of your day
3–4 short Zoom sessions per week for brainstorming, design reviews, and direction (30–60 min each)
Outside of meetings, you work independently at your own pace

What you'll do

Work in Figma to extend and maintain design systems based on brand directions I provide
Design website mockups (desktop + mobile) ready for developer handoff — clean, organized, annotated
Create graphic design assets: brochures, stationery, social media graphics, presentations, and other print/digital materials
Organize and prepare Figma files for developers (components, variants, spacing, specs)
Handle image editing, cropping, and optimization in Adobe Photoshop or Affinity Photo
Create vector graphics, icons, and illustrations in Adobe Illustrator or Affinity Designer
Work in Canva when client deliverables call for it
Participate actively in design reviews — ask questions, flag issues, give input

What you need

Figma — you must know auto layout, components, and basic prototyping. Design systems experience is a big plus, but if you understand the concept and want to learn, that counts
Adobe Suite (Photoshop + Illustrator + InDesign) OR Affinity Designer/Publisher/Photo — at least two of these confidently
Canva — basic working knowledge
A genuine eye for design — not just execution ability, but aesthetic judgment
Strong written English — you'll communicate with me daily via chat and occasionally explain your decisions
Reliable internet and a computer that can handle Figma + Adobe without freezing
Willingness to follow direction, ask when unsure, and iterate without ego

What this is
This is an independent subcontractor arrangement, not employment. You invoice monthly. You control your schedule outside of our agreed meeting times and overlap window. I'm looking for someone to build with long-term — if you're good and reliable, hours and rate grow with the relationship.
