Part-time Remote Accountant / Bookkeeper (Contractor)
Pay: Competitive, depending on experience

We’re looking for a detail-oriented, tech-savvy accountant/bookkeeper who understands UK small business accounting and can help us get our books clean, organised, and future-proof.
What You’ll Do
Review and tidy up past bookkeeping records (catch-up/reconciliation).
Set up or optimise our accounting system (Xero, QuickBooks, or similar) for efficient ongoing use.
Categorise transactions accurately, ensuring VAT is handled correctly.
Provide guidance on UK-specific accounting strategies, tax efficiencies, and allowances.
Prepare monthly management reports for a clear view of our finances.
Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements.
Must-Have Skills
Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards (VAT, self-assessment, allowable expenses, MTD).
Experience with Xero, QuickBooks, or FreeAgent.
Excellent written and verbal English.
Attention to detail, accuracy, and discretion.
Proactive mindset: we value someone who will take initiative in making helpful suggestions rather than only carrying out tasks exactly as instructed.
Examples include:
Identifying ways to simplify and improve bookkeeping processes for accuracy and efficiency.
Advising on UK-specific, HMRC-approved allowances and reliefs that a small business can benefit from (e.g., allowable expenses, VAT schemes, pensions, R&D credits).
Highlighting upcoming tax deadlines and ensuring records are in order well in advance.
Recommending best practices for financial record-keeping that make year-end accounts easier and reduce the risk of errors.
Suggesting practical steps to improve cash flow and budgeting, always within UK tax law and professional accounting standards.
Nice-to-Have Skills
AAT or similar accounting/bookkeeping qualification.
Previous work with UK-based eCommerce businesses.
Familiarity with Shopify/Etsy financial reporting.
