Internal Finance Manager / Senior Management Accountant
Full-Time | Work From Home | Australian Accounting Experience Required
***About the Role
We are seeking a strong, commercially minded and highly organised Internal Finance Manager / Senior Management Accountant to take ownership of the internal finance function for a growing Australian group of businesses.
This is a hands-on, all-rounder accounting role. You will be responsible for the complete finance cycle — from day-to-day transactions and reconciliations through to month-end close, management reporting, budgeting, cash flow forecasting, job costing, profitability analysis and KPI reporting.
You will also take ownership of important group financial administration, including insurance, licences and other renewals, and provide confidential financial support to the Founder.
This is not a purely transactional bookkeeping role, nor is it a position for someone who only reviews work prepared by others.
We need someone who can personally get into the detail, make sure the numbers are right, analyse what they mean and give management clear financial visibility.
You will work closely with the Founder and management team and play an important role in improving profitability, cash flow, financial controls and decision-making across the Group.
**Key Responsibilities
1. Day-to-Day Accounting & Finance
Take ownership of the day-to-day internal accounting function across multiple entities, including:
• Bank and credit card reconciliations
• Accounts payable and accounts receivable oversight
• Payroll and payroll-related reconciliations
• Intercompany transactions and reconciliations
• Balance sheet reconciliations
• Fixed asset and accounting schedules
• Correct transaction coding and supporting documentation
• Investigation and correction of accounting discrepancies
• Maintenance of accurate and up-to-date financial records
• Identification of unusual transactions, errors and control weaknesses
You will be expected to remain hands-on and capable of completing detailed accounting work yourself when required.
2. Month-End Closing & Management Accounts
Take full ownership of the month-end process, including:
• Month-end journals
• Accruals and prepayments

• Balance sheet reconciliations
• Intercompany reconciliations
• Revenue and expense cut-off
• Review of P&L and balance sheet
• Investigation of unusual movements
• Preparation of management accounts
• Month-end management commentary
• Ensuring reporting is completed accurately and on time
The successful candidate should be capable of independently driving month-end close without needing to be reminded of each task.
3. Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow
• Prepare and maintain annual budgets
• Maintain rolling forecasts
• Prepare and maintain a rolling cash flow forecast
• Monitor actual results against budget
• Analyse and explain material variances
• Identify upcoming cash requirements and potential cash flow risks
• Monitor working capital
• Provide management with early warning of potential financial issues

• Employee utilisation and productivity
• Revenue and cost per employee
• Identification of underperforming clients, jobs or service areas
• Identification of scope creep and cost overruns
• Development and continuous improvement of job costing methodologies
• Recommendations to improve margins and operational efficiency
The successful candidate must be able to go beyond producing numbers and explain what the numbers mean, why performance has changed and what management should investigate or change.
5. KPI Dashboard & Performance Reporting
Take ownership of the financial KPI and management reporting framework across the Group.
Responsibilities include:

• Provide concise management commentary and recommendations
• Continuously improve and automate KPI reporting where practical
The objective is to give management timely, accurate and actionable visibility over the financial health and performance of the Group.
This position is expected to highlight problems proactively rather than simply produce reports.
6. Group Finance & Corporate Administration
Take ownership of important recurring financial and administrative obligations, including:
• Insurance renewals
• Professional and business licence renewals
• Registrations and other recurring compliance renewals
• Finance and loan documentation
• Subscription and contract renewals
• Maintaining a centralised renewal and compliance calendar
• Ensuring deadlines are identified well in advance
