JOB OVERVIEW

About the role

A small interior design company in New Zealand is looking for a talented writer and designer to prepare its monthly content.

This is a creation role only. You'll write the content and design it in Canva, then send us upload-ready files. We handle all publishing, so you won't need access to accounts.

The monthly package

Each month there are two topics. Here's everything you deliver in a month:

Topic 1
• 1 blog (300-500 words), written to rank in Google
• 1 Instagram carousel (up to 5 slides, with caption) on the same topic, pointing people to the blog

Topic 2
• 1 blog (300-500 words), written to rank in Google
• 1 Instagram carousel (up to 5 slides, with caption) on the same topic, pointing people to the blog

Flexible Instagram content
• 2 more Instagram carousels (up to 5 slides each, with captions), which may follow the month's topics or cover something different
• Some months, these 2 carousels may be swapped for 4 single-image posts instead

Newsletter
• 1 newsletter (300-400 words) summarising both topics and linking back to each blog

Monthly total: 2 blogs, 4 carousels (or 2 carousels and 4 single posts) and 1 newsletter. Each piece includes relevant images; more on imagery below.

Because each blog and its carousel come from one topic, you only need to research it once. The skill we're looking for is keeping one voice consistent across every format, while adapting the wording naturally to each.

Topics are interiors-related and will be provided, and you're welcome to suggest your own.

Pay

• US$55 monthly retainer for the monthly package.
• Paid within 3 days of final approval, via Wise or PayPal.
• Over time, if all is going well, there is potential for the package and the retainer to grow together.

Imagery

Sourcing beautiful, on-brand images is a big part of this role.

• Use Canva's library or reputable free stock sites, and list the source for each image.
• Never use Google Images, Pinterest or other designers' work.
• Brand or supplier images are used only with our approval, and we'll arrange the permission.

SEO

Each blog needs basic SEO: a meta title and description, a clear heading structure, image alt text and internal links. We provide a target keyword for each topic and a full brief once you're selected.

What you'll deliver

• Carousels and single posts: designed in your own Canva Pro account and exported as upload-ready image files, with captions supplied in a Google Doc.
• Blogs and newsletter: text in a Google Doc, ready to copy and paste, with headings and SEO details clearly marked. Blog images are sent as separate files.

Your own work

We're hiring you for your writing and eye, so all work should be yours: not copied or reworded from someone else's article, and not done by anyone else. Research facts and information as needed, but the writing and design should be your own. AI is fine for research and for checking spelling and grammar, just not for writing or rewriting the content.

You'll need

• Canva Pro (required once hired)
• Fluent written English
• A good eye for composition and a sophisticated, classy aesthetic
• Knowledge of mid-range to high-end interiors, and comfort researching for the New Zealand market
• A basic understanding of SEO writing
• Experience creating AI-generated imagery is a plus

Tone

Friendly, approachable, professional, like a relaxed design columnist.

Timeline and revisions

• Monthly work is due within 2 weeks of the brief. We'll send feedback within 5 days, and revisions are due within one week of feedback.
• Each piece includes one round of revisions. Corrections for factual errors or missed brief points are always included, and anything larger is discussed first.
• New Zealand is about 5 hours ahead of the Philippines, so please allow for this.

How to apply

Please include "Content Writer 26" in your subject line for our records, then send:

1. Samples of your work. For example, an Instagram post or carousel, a blog on interiors, design or lifestyle, or a short video. A file, a link or a Google Drive link is fine.
2. A trial piece. Write one blog of 300-500 words and design its matching Instagram carousel of up to 5 slides, on an interiors topic of your choice.
◦ Send the blog as a Google Doc and the carousel as exported images.
◦ Free Canva and free stock imagery are fine for the trial. List the source for each image.
◦ If you're hired, you'll be paid for this trial (US$18), and it counts toward your first month.
3. A few lines about your content experience.

Applications without samples and a trial piece won't be considered.

The selection process

1. Application: we review your samples and trial piece.
2. Short video call: shortlisted applicants are invited to a short 10-15 minute call.
3. Hire: we start with the monthly package. The first two months are a settling-in period, with a quick check-in at the end to make sure it's working well for both of us. From there, the work grows as it develops.
