Interior Design & Construction Coordinator / PM

We are looking for a highly organized and resourceful Interior Design & Construction Coordinator to support NYC residential, high-end residential, and light commercial renovation projects. Deep working knowledge in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Engineering a big plus.

This is an execution-focused interior design and construction coordination role, with significant involvement in material sourcing, procurement, finish selections, vendor coordination, subcontractor coordination, construction sequencing, and field execution.

We are especially interested in interior designers or interior design project coordinators who understand how a design actually gets built.

You should have a strong eye for high-end interiors and understand appropriate materials, finishes, proportions, details, and quality standards — while also being practical enough to understand construction sequencing, installation requirements, lead times, budgets, and field conditions.

A major part of the role is taking a design or selection and carrying it through:

Design/Selection → Specification → Pricing → Vendor Leveling → Approval → Procurement → Delivery → Field Coordination → Installation → Punch List

You should be comfortable working with items such as millwork, cabinetry, mouldings, doors and hardware, flooring, tile, stone, slabs, plumbing fixtures, lighting, glass, mirrors, metalwork, paint, specialty finishes, wallcoverings, appliances, decorative hardware, and other architectural finish materials.

You should have enough construction knowledge to understand when different trades need to enter the project and what must happen before them.

For example, you should recognize that cabinetry may require blocking and coordinated electrical/plumbing rough-ins before walls are closed; stone may require final field templating after preceding work reaches the correct stage; tile requires proper substrate and waterproofing; and finish trades must be sequenced carefully to avoid damage and rework.

We want someone who notices details such as poor moulding transitions, awkward reveals, inconsistent grout joints, incorrect material transitions, misaligned fixtures, poorly located switches/outlets, improper paint finish, bad hardware selections, incorrect tile layouts, or details that simply do not look appropriate for a high-end project.

You should have both taste and technical curiosity. If you do not know the correct material or installation technique, you should know how to research it, speak with the appropriate trade or manufacturer, understand the options, and come back with a recommendation.

The position is also heavily involved in procurement and sourcing. You should be comfortable obtaining multiple quotes, leveling vendors apples-to-apples, finding alternate sources, negotiating pricing, tracking lead times, samples and approvals, and evaluating cost vs. quality vs. appearance vs. schedule vs. risk.

Most importantly, we need someone who is self-reliant and execution-oriented.

Do not simply forward information to management. Turn it into clear next actions:

Management: Approve / Buy / D ----------
Field: Measure / Prepare / Verify / Install
Vendor: Price / Sample / Fabricate / Deliver
Coordinator: Follow Up / Schedule / Resolve / Confirm

If a specified product is too expensive, unavailable, or has an unacceptable lead time, research alternatives and present the best options.

If a field condition conflicts with the design, identify the issue and coordinate toward a solution.

If a trade cannot proceed because something is missing, determine what is missing and help get it resolved.

If work may require a NYC permit, inspection, licensed trade, DOB/LPC coordination, architect, engineer, or other approval, recognize it and flag it early.

Ideal Candidate

An interior designer, interior design coordinator, procurement coordinator, or construction coordinator with practical experience in residential or light commercial construction would be an excellent fit.
