Equinox Automation is a specialist engineering consultancy in New Zealand. We work on safety-critical engineering for industrial and energy clients in fire and gas detection, functional safety, machine safety, instrumentation, control, and electrical.
This is not a basic task-taker role.
This is a serious engineering consultancy role. We are looking for someone who wants ownership, responsibility, and long-term growth.
This is a project delivery support role. You will work under the direction of our engineers leading the project - preparing engineering documents, drawings, models, and data to help us deliver our projects.
We want someone with at least 2-3 years of technical on-the-job experience, and the accountability required for a remote role.
THE WORK
• Preparing schedules and other documents from P&ID, drawing data and project developed sources.
• Preparing 3D models from client data, and converting client models for use in our other software
• CAD drawings and markups for instrumentation and electrical work
• Building and maintaining instrument lists, I/O lists, cable schedules, and equipment schedules
• Marking up drawings - P&IDs, layouts, schematics, loop drawings, as-builts
• Assembling reports, datasheets, and technical documents from engineer inputs
• Improving our templates, checklists, and SOPs
We will teach you our specialist work - fire and gas mapping, functional safety, machine safety. You do not need that experience. You need to be accurate, drawing-literate, and quick to learn.
WHAT WE NEED
Essential:
• Engineering degree or diploma in electrical, instrumentation and control, electronics, mechatronics, or industrial engineering
• At least 2-3 years of experience working on real projects or on-site in industrial plants.
• Able to read, interpret and build engineering drawings - P&IDs, single line diagrams, loop drawings, layouts, schematics
• CAD and Bluebeam experience - AutoCAD or similar.
• Some 3D model experience - Navisworks etc
• Strong attention to detail and clear, accurate technical English
• Strong Microsoft Office 365 skills
• Able to work independently, with good file management and document control habits
• Comfortable handling confidential business and client information
An advantage:
• Oil and gas, petrochemical, power, geothermal, mining, or industrial experience
• Any exposure to safety systems, instrumentation and industrial engineering
REMOTE SETUP
• Reliable high-speed internet, with a backup connection
• Dual monitors
• A computer capable of running 3D model software
• Secure, private work space
• Ability to configure approved VPN access to New Zealand
ENGAGEMENT
• Independent contractor, fully remote, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
• Core hours 1:00pm-5:00pm NZST, with occasional availability 8:00am-1:00pm NZST for meetings and reviews
• Other hours may be agreed based on performance and reliability after the trial period
• Communication through Teams,
• Contractor responsible for own taxes, equipment, and work setup
• One-month trial to start. Long-term opportunity for the right person.
