JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description:
We are a fast-growing publishing house rolling out thousands of 4-page Cramcharts ( ---------- ) and quick reference guides over the next 3 years. We are looking for a handful of technical layout specialists who live and breathe Adobe InDesign automation.

Important: I do not need a pure "artist." I need a technician who can design. If you are a creative genius but manually place text boxes one by one, we are not a fit. If you are passably creative but can import a messy Word document, run a GREP script, map styles in 3 seconds, and automate a 4-page spread via Data Merge or JSX—you are our ideal candidate.

What you will do:

Receive raw Word manuscripts and seamlessly roll them into InDesign using style mapping, GREP, and scripts.

Build and maintain master templates for 4-page quick-reference folders.

Use JavaScript/ExtendScript (or even custom plugins) to shave hours off repetitive layout tasks.

Provide quality control on imported text (orphans, widows, consistent leading).

Work alongside a team of other automation designers to handle the volume.

Who you are:

Technical proficiency is non-negotiable. You know how to write or modify scripts to speed up workflows.

Excellent English (written & spoken). I need to jump on a voice call and understand you immediately, and you need to understand me without me repeating instructions. Accents are fine; unclear communication and limited English is not.

Proactive & positive. You see a bottleneck and figure out how to script your way around it. Lazy people who wait for instructions will be filtered out quickly.

Hungry to grow. We prefer early/mid-career designers who are adaptable and eager to learn modern efficiency, over senior designers set in their old manual ways.

Compensation & Commitment:

I cannot pay North American rates, but I pay competitive Philippine rates for the right talent.

Payment structure: I prefer flat-rate per completed title (so you earn more the faster and more efficiently you work). However, I am open to hourly for an absolute rockstar. We will discuss what works best for you.

Long-term security: We are releasing thousands of titles. We will keep the top performers and build a core team; poor performers will be let go quickly.

We intend to hire multiple people immediately.

Application Requirements (Read Carefully):
To prove you actually read this, please start your application message with the word "AUTOMATE".
In your application, include:

Your portfolio (we care more about clean, efficient and automated layout rather than flashy logos).

Your specific experience with InDesign scripts (name a script you use regularly or have modified).

Your preferred rate (flat per project or hourly).

A link to your Upwork/Freelancer reviews or a screenshot of client testimonials (if available).
