We are seeking a seasoned U.S. Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, oversee filings, manage staff, and support advanced tax planning initiatives.
Role Overview
The Tax Manager will be responsible for end-to-end tax oversight, including preparation, review, client advisory, and team management. This role requires strong technical tax knowledge, hands-on experience with UltraTax, and the ability to operate independently in a remote environment.
You will work closely with ownership, bookkeeping teams, and clients to ensure accurate filings, proactive planning, and timely delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Review
Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns, including:
Individual (1040)
Partnerships (1065)
S Corporations (1120S)
C Corporations (1120)
Multi-state filings
Ensure compliance with current U.S. federal, state, and local tax laws
Manage tax deadlines and filing calendars to ensure on-time submissions
Handle IRS and state notices, audits, and correspondence as needed
Tax Planning & Advisory
Support and execute proactive tax strategies for business owners and real estate investors
Advise on entity structure, reasonable compensation, depreciation, cost segregation coordination, and other planning opportunities
Collaborate with leadership on advanced tax strategies and client-specific planning
Technology & Systems
Primary tax software: UltraTax CS
Work closely with QuickBooks Online to reconcile tax returns to books
Review bookkeeping accuracy prior to tax preparation
Maintain clean workpapers and documentation standards
Team Leadership
Review work prepared by junior tax staff and offshore tea
Provide feedback, training, and quality control
Assist in improving tax workflows, SOPs, and internal processes
Act as a technical resource for the tax and accounting teams
Client Communication
Serve as a point of contact for tax-related client questions
Explain tax outcomes and planning strategies clearly and confidently
Participate in client meetings and planning calls when needed
Required Qualifications
5+ years of U.S. tax experience in public accounting
Strong working knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax law
Hands-on experience with UltraTax CS (required)
Strong experience with QuickBooks Online
Experience reviewing complex business returns
Ability to work independently and manage multiple clients and deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
