JOB OVERVIEW

About the Role
We are a commercial heating and cooling company looking for an experienced HVAC Drafter to join our team. We are looking for someone who has strong HVAC drafting experience, a solid understanding of HVAC systems, and the practical knowledge and common sense to produce accurate drawings with minimal supervision.

The successful candidate will be able to understand project requirements, interpret technical information, and translate concepts into professional, accurate HVAC drawings. You should be comfortable working independently and be able to identify potential issues rather than simply drafting exactly what you are told.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare accurate, professional HVAC drawings for commercial heating and cooling projects.

Produce detailed drawings using AutoCAD.

Interpret project requirements, specifications, architectural drawings, and other technical information.

Develop HVAC layouts, ductwork, piping, equipment, and associated systems in accordance with project requirements.

Ensure drawings are practical, coordinated, and suitable for installation.

Review drawings and identify clashes, inconsistencies, or potential design and installation issues.

Work with project managers, engineers, estimators, and installation teams as required.

Make revisions and updates to drawings throughout the project lifecycle.

Assist with preparing HVAC estimates and take-offs, including quantities, materials, and equipment where required.

Ensure drawings and estimates are accurate and completed within required timeframes.

Apply sound practical judgment and common sense when interpreting project requirements.

Requirements
Proven experience as an HVAC Drafter, preferably within commercial heating and cooling.

Strong practical understanding of HVAC systems and installation methods.

Excellent AutoCAD skills.

Experience producing detailed and accurate HVAC drawings.

Experience with HVAC estimating and quantity take-offs.

Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and technical drawings.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Good understanding of ductwork, piping, equipment, and commercial HVAC systems.

Ability to work independently and understand requirements without needing every detail explained step by step.

Strong problem-solving skills and practical common sense.

Ability to identify potential issues and suggest practical solutions.

Good communication and organisational skills.

What We Are Looking For
This role would suit someone who is more than just a CAD operator. You need to genuinely understand HVAC systems and how they work in practice.

We are looking for a drafter who can look at a project, understand what is required, ask the right questions when necessary, and produce drawings that make sense from both a technical and installation perspective.
